Mass air flow sensor repeated failure??

Post by mcdavidhome »

For the life of me I can't figure out why my new replacement MAF sensors keep failing after only 2 or 3 weeks of operation on my ssei.

When they stop working, there is always no airflow readings or "0" voltage and a P0102 code is generated (Mass or volume air flow sensor "A" circuit low).

I've replaced 5 sensors in the last 6 months, and they all fail in the same way. Am I missing something here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What brand?
In my experience an OEM equivalent is best, Hitachi is a reliable replacement.

I also use the Hitachi MAF0047 and have had no problems.
It is a high quality OEM part not like all the Chinese garbage out there.
Price is $80.00 from Amazon.
One day delivery.

The brand I have been buying is
BDFHYK Mass Air Flow Sensor Meter for $29.99 off amazon. I honestly havent had any issues with inferior parts off amazon in the past but apparently this must be my issue when it comes to sensors.

Apparently this is my problem. As you stated "chinese garbage knock offs". Please excuse my ignorance because this is new to me but thanks for all the pro tips. Now I have been enlightened!

You have to realize that when it comes to electronics China is not the best quality.
Over there they cold solder plus there are impurities in their metal.
It is cheaper and that's why they do it but quality is not good.
The solder joints have a tendency to crack and open up.
I had a problem with ICM'S (ignition control modules) on my Bonneville's awhile back.
The car would run great when cold but would stall out when it warmed up.
It turned out that all my garbage ICM'S I was using came from China.
When the car warmed up the solder joints would separate and car would stall.
After waiting awhile after it cooled down the joints would contract it would run great.
I now use only OEM ones.
I get them from Andrew of Bonnevilles Unlimited.
Have not had any problems since.

Oh crap that is garbage manufacturing! I am familiar with cold soldering. I'm in audio engineering and I have to solder cables quite frequently. Cold solder basically means you will have 0 connections between to points. This is definitely a lesson well learned. My thinking was that since every freaking thing that we buy in America practically comes from china or is manufactured in china that it really didn't matter what I purchased becuz it will come from china anyhow. But its good to know now that there are other alternatives for auto parts. Once again thanks for your help.

SO FAR SO GOOD!!! I purchased the Hitachi sensor and so far I haven't had any issues going on 3 weeks now. Thanks to everyone for the much needed help!
