Could the ignition switch be the problem?

Post by ColoBonne »

A little while ago, I posted a question here about a crank, no start problem I had with my 2005 SE.
I did all the tests and diagnosed it as a failed crank position sensor. Turns out I don’t have the tools necessary to do the job. (Couldn’t break the vibration damper bolt loose) and took it to a mechanic to replace.
When I picked up the car, they said it started right up when they went out to bring car in and start working on it. They did replace the sensor for me, but told me that he thinks the problem is the ignition switch and I’ll just have this problem again eventually.
Is this possible? While I was diagnosing it, the tach would not move while cranking which told me cranks position sensor, but he says this will happen too with an ignition switch issue. Is he right?
Car has worked fine ever since (about a week now)
