GXP brake caliper bracket bolts HELP

Post by L67Mike »

I'm having a hard time finding the correct caliper bracket bolts to fit the GXP style caliper brackets. The bolts that hold the brackets to the knuckles. Does anyone have a part number? They are different than the SSEI bolts :helpsmilie:

When I looked at the diagram, it looks like that part number holds the caliper to the bracket. The diagram isn't really representative of the part because those bolts look far longer than the ones actually used. Although, diagrams are sometimes misleading.

...

Asked the dealer, and of course, Andrew is correct with that number...

I know that part number because Ed snapped one years ago when doing a brake job on his GXP and had to get one at the dealer. ;)

It's scary to think one of these would snap!

Have you seen Ed? He could snap an axle with a 3/8" ratchet

I don't know how else I would have found any without Andrew. I bought my Father a GXP caliper set, then got a set for mine from an SRX and "borrowed" the bracket bolts from his set :-$ , now he's ready to install his and come to find out I couldn't find the bolts anywhere. Well, the new bolts should be in tomorrow now

I snapped one off when replacing the front rotors on my '05 GXP a few years back. It was 8 at night and the car was in my friends garage...so we needed something to finish and get the car out. Went to Menards and found the same bolts for $2. Not sure if they are exactly the same in terms of strength and material, but they have held for at least 2 years now. If I find what the specs were, I will share them here.

...I should probably replace them with the correct part, eh? Thanks for the part number!

just check to see if the bolt has a stamped number on the head, if it an eight or an 5 you will be fine. Any number lower than five I would replace it.

Metric bolts are stamped with a number, SAE with a series of lines to represent the grade (3 lines = grade 5, 6 lines = grade 8).

Metric bolts (used on these cars) are graded by class. Metric class 8.8 is close to SAE grade 5; class 10.9 is close to grade 8. Whatever is stamped on the bolt that came off is the minimum you want to put back on. On a braking and suspension components I would expect to find class 10.9 (grade 8) hardware, but there are exceptions.

Thanks for the info! Looked in my toolbox and found the leftover one. Here's the full info in case anyone needs one in a pinch (literally what it says on the package):
Handi-Pack
Part# 87276
8MM x 25MM
COARSE THREAD
JIS FLANGE BOLT
The bolt head is marked with W.T 10.9, so it seems I lucked out and bought the correct grade...I feel safer now :bwoohoo:
