I wonder if anyone knows the proper color for the headliner for a 2001 SLE?
The interior is dark pewter.
I went to order some material but there are so many choices of gray.
I am not sure which gray is correct.

I've ordered from yourautotrim.com. I ordered the sample packet and the closest gray was called "Medium Grey". It is probably the closest you will find.

It's been a while since I checked, but if you have a JoAnn Fabrics in your area (it's a nation-wide fabric/craft store), they carried automotive headliner material.
They had a grey that is a common GM color, but you would need to get a sample to be sure of how close it is to the grey used in our cars.

you may have paint codes in trunk lid label - from there you can get info from dealer.
