ssei trans swap to sle

Post by blackbonney »

New member here. Daily driver is the SLE. Just bought a 2000 SSEI with a bad head gasket for $200 that I'm using as a parts car. No problems right now but when the time comes, can I replace my non-HD trans from SLE with the HD trans from the SSEI? It looks like just about every part can be swapped over as needed. Any parts that can not? Thanks, Tim

Welcome to the forum!
One thread to not miss is the Common Problems thread
http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... 25362.html

It is very doubtful that the head gasket blew on the SSEi.
The lower intake manifold gaskets are what fail 99 times out of 100.
On my 5 Bonnevilles, not one has the original lower intake manifold gasket--every single one had the LIM gaskets fail.

$200 was a great price. The tires alone are worth more than that if they're in good shape.

As for the swap question, look here:

Thanks. One of the 4 tires has a leak but I got it for the wheels. I hate to strip it for parts but I already have enough projects and toys to work on. Would consider selling the SLE to fix up the SSEI but my SLE is too nice to let go. Got it 2 years ago with 83k on the clock for $3500. Doesn't even have the rust below the gas cap. Thanks for the links.

You're welcome.
I hear you with too many projects...it's a much better feeling to complete something than to look at a bunch of got to do's.
Your SLE sounds super nice.
