Hi All
I was wondering what other members have used to remove the harmonic balancer? I know GM call for a special tool, but can you use any puller for it? part numbers or pictures of tool use would be big help.
Thanks, Keith

Re: Harmonic Balancer?
There is really only one good way to remove it, and that is with a harmonic balancer puller. This is a good post on it from techinfo.

Re: Harmonic Balancer?
You use a standard puller, but they don't come with the right size/pitch bolts in the "kit". Also, some struggle with the bolt into the crank not coming loose, but the thread on removal has a nice guide on that if you don't have access to air tools.

Re: Harmonic Balancer?

Thanks keith.

I used a standard balancer puller but you need M6 x 1.0 bolts, 70-90 mm long (2.75-3.5 in) I used about 75mm. for the crank bolt use an impact gun. I had to go forward first, then reverse. ensure the air pressure is at its highest and use a good powerful gun and a high quality 6 pt socket.

They are different; the L67 HB has 2 sets of grooves for 2 belts.irish91983 wrote:thanks for the info. I have one more question are the L67 and L36 the same balancer? I checked rock auto they have different part numbers listed.

The L36 only uses a single belt.
