Torn...

Post by MajorsSerj »

Hello All,

Thank you for the add into this forum, I appreciate it. I have a 97' Bonneville SE Black with 120k. I am the 2nd owner and have been very happy with it, however for the past year or so I've been noticing parts failing and the passenger side rocker panel has succumbed to Rust/holes (the plastic Molding that would hide the metal fell off to reveal enormous amount of rust) I am torn on whether to keep it or not as the Turn Signal/Windshield Wiper Switch just broke on me and now the Wipers are stuck on the High setting. I have let the car sit for now as we have two other vehicles to use. Again thanks for the add and all the input you all share.

Welcome.

Let's see some pictures. Most of these small things can be replaced with parts from a junk yard for very cheap. And then you can just run the car into the ground.

I have a few pictures of the Rust/Holes, though I'm uncertain on how to upload them to this forum. They are on my cell, and it seems I may have to transfer them over to the PC to post. As soon as I can figure this out I will post them.

If the rust is bad, I'd say let it go...

Thanks for the "how to" that was a big help. As you can see the rust/hole is pretty bad, however I do intend to running it into the ground.

good!! If you want to keep her, I would just get her in shape to keep you out of trouble with cops, keep it up to highway code where you live and drive her

you can grind/cut as much rust as you can and prime, paint and fill hole with expanding foam and either get plastic part from JY or bondo over it. Did the expand foam/ bondo on my 93 cutlass with rotted wheel wells/fender and she kept me happy till I got my 96 SSEi

Just a suggestion to give you options if you love your car- the turn switch wont be too much problem to replace

What do you mean by "keep out of trouble with the Cops"?

I will try to do that as it does seem easier then it looks, and I still have the Plastic Molding that would go on their in my garage.

I appreciate the suggestion(s) and your time in responding, Thanks!

What do you mean by "keep out of trouble with the Cops"?

I live in Ontario Canada- you cannot have holes in the body of car that allow air to enter pass cabin.
your car has to pass safety standards to be registered or the cops will have it towed if they catch you driving.

glad I might have been of some assistance to you-- it's a shame to part with a car that has served you well due to rust cancer!!
hope all works out well for you!!
