So tonight I made a first attempt at cleaning my headlights with sandpaper... So far I have only done my driver's side. I wetsanded with 400, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500 grits, and then I polished it with the Meguire's Plastx polish and a PowerBall mini. I'm not sure if I did everything correctly though because even after all the sanding and polishing the lenses look slightly hazy and if you hold it at an angle you can still see the haze from the sanding... Is there some kind of special procedure to use when sanding or is this normal???
Thanks,
John

I wet sand and also I'll use one turn from left to right and then the next up to down. When polishing, make sure that you have a high speed drill or polisher.

Let's see a picture of it. Beware that there are imperfections you won't be able to get rid of if they're deep enough. And heat cracks will also be impossible to remove.

Don't forget also to apply clear coat or sealer to bring bring back the natural protection of the headlights.

Re: Advice On Cleaning Oxidation On Headlights
The PlastX just might not be cutting hard enough to buff out the scratches...
Re: Advice On Cleaning Oxidation On Headlights
I prefer a super wet slurry of cerium oxide to the PlastX compound. Just keep it wet and keep moving the cotton wheel around enough, and you won't burn the plastic.

Re: Advice On Cleaning Oxidation On Headlights
Thanks for the help... totally forgot about this thread. I did get it figured out in the end, spend a little more time with the higher grit sandpaper and also did what Tyler suggested. Turned out pretty good in the end, much better than before.
