93 ssei hvac trouble. display shows fans on full but no air

Post by focusmaniaczx3 »

title describes the problem. 93 ssei bonneville. fire the car up, hit the a/c or heat for that matter, crank it up to full blast, and no air at all comes out of any of the vents. the blower motor will not come on even though the digital display for the hvac says it is on full blast. i thought it was a bad blower motor so i replaced it and it still doesnt work. im lost

i saw the thread a few rows down from mine on how to pull up diagnostics on this car. i dont have a FSM for the car but ill follow the instructions and see if maybe i get lucky. thats a nice trick to have.
the focus was my first car so obviously it has become my money pit and 580whp play toy.
i bought a kia soul to "grow up" and have something that is practical with a back seat and gets good mileage.
my wife brought the ssei bonneville into the mix to piss me off because it does everything the kia does better.
i then bought another ssei bonneville

It's probably a wiring problem somewhere or the blower control module.

where is this do-hickey you speak of? im not intimately familiar with this car yet and i have no haynes or chilton for it

i always thought it was well within the realm of possibility that it was a wiring issue but was just hoping it was some common easy to fix problem... :sadeyz:

It sits down into the hvac duct on the engine side of the firewall, under the relays. You can't see them, but there's heatsink fins on the side that sits in the duct. Look for a wiring harness that plugs into the top of the duct.

I used to have problems with my blower not running too. Sometimes wiggling the connector at the blower would make it kick on, and the wiring was a little kinked and the wire insulation was cracked right there, so I spliced in a new connector. That seemed to help the problem, but it didn't go away. Then one day, my blower would not shut off even when the car wasn't running. A new module fixed it.
