Car idles then shuts off a few seconds later

Post by walle4577 »

My 2000 Bonneville starts and runs for a few seconds, then idles rough and dies out soon after. I restart it and it does the same thing until I hold in the gas for a while and keep the rpm's up around 2000. What could be causing this?

Vacuum leak, gummed TB, weak IAC, all come to mind.

Do you have any warning lights? Check engine?

I would give the throttle body and all the sensors a good cleaning.

Yes, the check engine light is on. I had the codes checked, and the only thing that came up was the air flow sensor, my air filter was dirty, I replaced it though.

Quick test:
Unplug the MAF sensor, then try starting/running the engine...
If it runs properly, clean or replace MAF sensor. Don't use Bosch tho, OEM, new or used.
Contact 'Harofreak00' for a good used one.
