MurderMitten's 2000 Bonneville SLE *UPDATED*

Post by MurderMitten »

Most Recent Update with Tint ;)

Next mods are carbon fiber wrapped window trim, retrofit when I get ballasts, ZZP 1.0 PCM, Lowering springs eventually, Catback borla or magnaflow exhaust! Just installed a FWI

Ahhh finally going to add more pictures. Just semi-detailed her in the garage before I went numb. Only thing I've done to her in a while is blacked out the ambers in the headlights but, more pics don't hurt

Still need a center cap...

-----------------------------------WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT--------------------------
-----------------------------WILL ADD PICS AS CAR PROGRESSES---------------------

I recently purchased a 2000 Bonneville SLE with 140k on the clock for $3500! So I'm going to get right to the pictures before the problems...
Recently after I bought her, first car wash took off my drive side SLE badge :banghead:

So I had to install a touchscreen

And finally Yesterday I tinted the tails with my buddy. Going to buff them and get them to shine this weekend.

So, now time for the problems  When I test drove the car it drove like a dream! Everything was smooth and the car was real sharp but the day after I bought it it started hard shifting, checked the fluid right away and it was a brownish red so I just did a fluid and filter change. Drove fine for a couple of hours until it started up again so I just went ahead and added lucas stop slip. I'm planning on replacing the PCS sometime in the near future but for now as long as I don't punch it on the highway or ride with a fully loaded car it shifts smooth just with some hesitation which is annoying for me! Also, living in Michigan I ran over a pot hole and all of a sudden my brake goes to the flood..Blew both back brake lines. Everything else is fine, only other problems are cosmetic. Fogged up headlights. small dent under front bumper(hardly noticeable), Gas door rust has been bondo'ed and repaired by a body shop but it appears to me they half asses it and didnt use fiberglass because I notice small flaws appearing in the paint throughout the winter season. Also the sunroof liner has been ripped off. Other than that she runs and drives great. Interior is really nice though and I am soon going to fix the pcs, retrofit the headlights, add tint and eventually do some performance mods.

Welcome to the club! Car looks pretty good!

As for the rough shifting.. Try a shift kit which is a cheaper alternative to a PCS replacement.

Fogged up headlights are an easy fix depending on their condition.

Yes! Join the retrofit club!

Good looking car! I like the way you did the taillights, I might do my old delaminated set like that.

I usually host a meet at my house, do a search in the Your Ride section for Michigan meet, tons of pics, always a great time. This year I think it will be at the same time as the Intense 3800 gathering in Detroit so members can hit both in one swing. My meets usually cover a long weekend.

Okay, let me know when one comes up! and Carl I feel like it'd be better to replace the solenoid. How hard is it though?

Welcome! I believe for the solenoid you have to remove the side cover and he channel plate in the transmission to get to it. This requires dropping half the subframe to gain access. Shift kit can be done from the bottom pan in no time at all.

I believe I am going to do the PCS soon and might just throw in a shift kit. Lately the transmission has been shifting smoothly but I don't like the hesitation. Going for faster shifts!

The side pan has to come off, Once out of the way( it'll be fun getting there ) the PCS will be on the front part of the valve body with the shift solenoids.. Not hard to replace at all and a good idea to do so, as well do install the shift improver kit, it will help clean up the shifts..

The thing is, the shift kit cures the problem 99% of the time and is 100% easier to do than the replacement for the solenoid.

On Rockauto, what are these parts called? My tranny has been acting up badly and I'm hoping for an easier and cheaper fix than a rebuild kit. any help would be appreciated.
