Seat upgrade 2000+

Anybody ever thought about putting in Gen 1 Caddy CTS seats in the 2000+? The seat belts are seat mounted just like the stock seats. My passenger seat is broken and I was thinking about finding some CTS seats for Penny sometime in the future. The look similar to the 03+ seats in the Bonneville, plus I believe they come in that same gray leather color. I'm sure most of them were heated as well.. Furthermore, the way the seat is designed will make it more roomy for rear passengers as well, which is a deal breaker for me.

I understand that some modification to rails as well as mounting points and wiring might have to be made, but I'm fine with that.

Thoughts and opinions?

Like I mentioned to you, I think with some small modification, and wire splicing, they ought to work fine.

Not sure about the side airbag though?

the biggest challenge is the mounting of the stock Bonneville Seats. The Bonneville seats mount different than every other seat that I have found.

Honestly if you want a bolt in application, look for the 00-05 DTS seats

Thanks Pat. Looks like there won't be an easy way out of this.

Looking at pictures of the DTS seats, they have the same problem as the stock Bonne ones. Too thick for no apparent reason.

You can remove the airbag light but every time you turn on the car you will get an airbag error on the DIC. It will not effect the operation of the other airbags, but if another airbag becomes faulty, then you will not know if the DIC is on because of the missing one or the bad one. In addition, if the seat mounting points are different then you will have to start drilling holes in the floor to mount them. The area where they are mounted will need to be reinforced for safety. The 00-05 Bonneville seat rear mounts are on the floor inboard and on the side of the body outboard, and the front ones sit on a hump with a locator notch and bolt through the front of the hump. It may be hard/unsafe to make adaptors or mount other seats in different places. IMHO there are too many safety issues. If you really want the Caddy seats, perhaps an upholstery shop can adapt them to the Bonneville seat frame and make the back part thinner. Then you get to keep the airbags and mounting points.

The only way to know is to get them both side by side. Pictures or schematics on GM parts sites or SI, won't always do justice.

Anyway, here is another thought. If you were to do this, leaving the Bonneville seat mounts/rails in the floor, and adapting the seat frame of the CTS seats to it. Therefore no issue drilling into your floor pan or safety issues.

I'm thinking depending on the price, I could have them look at my passenger seat and see why it's broken. The seat back moves back about an inch when you put your weight on it. Then maybe they could also modify the back to have a better scallop. Depending on the price of everything maybe I could get some really nice seats for Penny.

Killing all the birds with one stone. Having never dealt with an upholstery shop, dare I say, how expensive can it be? :eek2:

Also why I'm a little shy to ask what it will take to do the seats in the 96. They need it.

Worth asking though definitely. You'll have to take it in for an estimate though.

I don't remember the numerical number for what you wanted in the Limo. Was it at that Jason guy's place?

Lucerne seats don't have the appropriate seat belt anchorage.

Could you just tune ont the code for the seat airbags? Similar to deleating the o2 code? That way he others still work and code correctly?

Passenger seat? Also I assume it is full power? I wonder if it will still work in Penny. She's got a power bottom only seat.

Also, aren't Aurora seats the SAME exact thing minus the move-able head rest?
