Just what I'd expect. Even with the steering wheel on the wrong side. Pity they didn't check MPG.

This, better MPGs, as well as the higher risk of damage without the proper octane fuel is exactly what we have been trying to tell people for years. An engine designed and recommended by the manufacturer to run premium will benefit from it.

Re: Octane test- does it make a difference- video
well they were simply testing if a car would run faster with a higher octane fuel or not, so in the reference to the video I would say that the ultimate would be your best bet but if your really going for the best bang for your buck why didn't they test the 110 octane?

Re: Octane test- does it make a difference- video
The thing is, from my perspective, the car isn't running faster with the higher octane. It's running slower with the reduced octane. Reduced octane allows knock so the computer retards the timing(to save the engine) reducing cylinder pressure and performance(HP, torque and MPG). The difference between BP and Shell indicates more improvement might be had with greater octane but they proved the point. Octane makes the fuel burn slower, so too much isn't helpful either. Not mentioned but if an 87 octane engine is given crap(<87) gas it will do the same.
Back in the day before EFI was the norm I loaned my van, that had always been given regular, to someone who put Speedway regular in it. It pinged so bad had to finish filling it with Shell premium to get it to stop. Now would just have to notice the performance difference. Still won't use Speedway.

Different method of rating the octane - Ours is (RON + MON)/2, theirs is just the RON.

Exactly, you will save a bunch of money and save your engine if you run the proper fuel, that's what ppl don't seem to understand, they think short term when they need to think long term

- Year and Trim: thinking about buying a '87
Re: Octane test- does it make a difference- video
speaking of octane, i remember about a decade ago back when i started driving sunoco tried selling substandard gas, i think it was 86 or maybe even 85 octane. it had less octane then regular unleaded, not sure exactly what the rating was. i do remember that they pulled it from the market it a hurry. seems like no-one want to save 6 cents a gallon to buy substandard grade fuel. i dont even know where they got such a low grade gasoline from anyways. it didnt last long. i also remember that the put some additive in gasonline that was supposed to reduce emissions, it too was pulled from the market. too bad we cannot get ethanol out of our gas.
