This might be a stupid question. While the pedal is to the floor, do you guys have the transmission in Drive, or is it better to start in 1 and shift through to D? I have shaved off some seconds shifting through the gears compared to being in drive. Yet im worried that the transmission cant handle it. It has been rebuilt once.

It's the same force whether you do it or you let the computer shift it, and the computer reacts a lot faster than you do. The clutches and hard parts are the same as what's in an S/C car, the only real difference is the differential. It can take it.

The big concern is the engine. In stock form it may short shift a bit, but not much. If you are shaving seconds, i have to question the rpms you are turning. In stock form, there is not much gain at redline, and the valvetrain is usually the weakest point

Btw, shiftpoints can be adjusted with a tune, if you really want to fiddle with things

I would leave it in D if you are doing pulls. The other gears could be used if you wanted to force a downshift, or maybe for autocross to hold a gear. If you do shift it yourself, be careful and watch the revs. I over revved my last car doing that and killed the engine.

Shifting the trans manually will actually be slower than the computer. Also there are Other things that happen when the trans is put in Manual 1 and 2 vs 3 and Drive.
The only time I have the car in Manual 1 or 2 is to do a burnout in the water box at the track,
I will pull the car down into 3 if im on the highway and want to do a WOT pull

Any time I've ever timed my car, I've gotten the quickest results in 3 vs. manual shifting or leaving it in D.
