Dash lights

Post by Leejr57 »

95 bonneville SE. Dash lights work only once in awhile. I'm thinking possibly headlight switch. Any suggestions?

That's a good place to start looking. There's a rheostat in the thumbwheel that gets dirty over time. Try running it up and down a few times to see if the IP lights flicker. The bulbs in the IP are all wired in parallel, so a single burned out bulb doesn't have the "christmas tree light" effect of knocking out the entire panel.

Beyond that, I'd start cleaning the contacts that connect the instrument panel to the wiring harness in the dash.

Turned out the wiring harness apparently not making good contact. I took it apart and plugged it back in, and they are working. The plug looks like it might have been hot at one time or another, but seems to be working for now.
