Wrecked GXP

Post by mblaze »

Hey, I have a "what would you do question". Sorry to post in mechanical, but you are GXP guys, so you know the love hate relationship. My 05 GXP with 115k miles on it just got rear ended the other day, and pushed into the 2 cars in front of me. Minor Front end damage, heavier rear end damage, but not to tail lights etc. It's still drive-able. About $3500-$4000 worth of damage. The thing is, I just don't know if I should take the money and run, and drive it until it drops, or if I should fix it. If I have it repaired, I still have to deal with a bad serpentine belt pulley, all 4 door sensors are shot, all the gauges are dead, it leaks water through the door seals, it has the dreaded shimmy, and I think that it's leaking oil. The thing has also overheated several times while they were trying to fix it. Since my gauges are shot, I could not tell it was overheating until the DIC and radio messages came on. Of course I went through several repairs, a water pump,2 radiators, etc, until all was fixed, but it overheated 4 times, once for every time they gave it back "fixed." It runs fine with no overheating now, and seemingly no damage from overheating, not yet anyway. I got hit before I could take it back for the other repairs. I have no warranty. So...My dilemma...What would you do? Repair the collision damage or take the money and enjoy the car while it lasts? I am very interested to hear your thoughts! :dontknow:

I am still waiting to hear back for approval since it's the other drivers insurance, but it looks like between $3500 and $4000

That's it? My niece just got rear ended in the 94 Bonnie I gave her a couple years ago. She got 2200 for it. That car is 11 years older than yours and was just an SE with around 160K miles on it. I purchased that car for 1750 3 years ago.

You might want to do some homework as to what the comps are selling for and try to get more out of them.

Are they totalling it? Or are they giving you the money to get it repaired?

Sounds like it might be money for the repair costs.

Not totaling, it's just repair costs. I can take a check or get it repaired. If I go ahead and get it repaired, instead of putting that check towards another car, I still have to repair the other problems I mentioned above, plus a bunch of other little ones on my dime. I am afraid that I will go through all the repairs and then blow a head gasket from the overheating or something. So I was thinking that I may just take the check and keep driving it the way that it is. I love it, but I am not sure that I can afford to keep up with all the constant repairs. Just wondering if you guys think that I'm crazy for not fixing it?

First in line for the wheels. ;)

Seriously, it's 115k on a N* with all the problems you have. I'd take the check and run.

Well, that car is worth a lot of money in parts alone ;)

I'd say take the money and sell the car or keep driving it. I wouldn't even bother having it fixed with all the other issues you have. It does sound like you might have a major engine issue but who knows.

If you can get in go to the Manheim auctions websites (dealer wholesale) and check the value. Thats where I bought mine. GXPs with around 100-120k on the clock are going from 7 to 9k (wholesale)

I'm in the market for some parts from a black GXP if you decide to part it out. My trunk lid has some fade on it that I'd like to get rid of and my rims are all destroyed. If you decide to part it out please contact me. I am also in need of a better drivers side headlight and a passenger fog light assembly and floor mats.

This thread was from nearly 2 years ago. Chances are the O.P. has either long since settled and the car is gone, or they repaired it and he's driving it.
