does anyone elses low output concerter sound like s*** ??

This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

does anyone elses low output concerter sound like s*** ??

Post by oneeye »

What's up guys

So this weekend I bought my wife a new system for my 06 civic her daily drive cuz I really wanted my alpine setup in the Bonnie . Spent a couple hours running all my wires and hooking everything up ( I work in an after market shop ) so everything is installed correctly as it should be here's what im running

2 12 inch alpine type e'e
300 x 2 alpine v12 amp
Alpine low output converter
4 gauge wiring

This setup slammed in my civic and gain was only quarter of the way up and subs weren't even being pushed so I wanted to put them in my car and turn the gain up since our cars can handle it without Falling apart like a not so well put together civic lol

Here's my problem .. It sounds amazing as an alpine setup should except for when I go past about quarter volume the subs start to distorte really bad .. I've done hours of tuning and can't seem to get it right im stumped and getting very irritated because I've been doing this for years and never been this stumped

Please any help asap thank you very much

( I would like to try and stay away after market head units just because I love the factory look and operation )

Thanks in advance

How far is the bass turned up on the head unit?
How high is the gain setting on the amp?
How high is the bass boost setting on the amp?

It has nothing to do with my tuning skills as stated before I have years of experience not try to be rude or pushy just trying to get this dialed out asap that way if anyone else gas the problem there not scrolling through pages of comments to find the answer lol ... But if it makes you feel better
Bass on head unit all the way down
Fade in middle
Gain on amp quarter way up
Bass boost all that garage is turned off I just use the raw power of the amp that way it's as clear as possible

This is exactly how the amp was tuned in my 06 civic which is also running on a low output converter and it was clean and crisp all they way up through to full volume
So im 100% sure that it's not the way that it's tuned or that my equipment is junk (alpine has lowest distortion rating on the market right now )

I had seen that someone else had this problem in a Bonnie to but I haven't been able to find it since my install lol

Thanks

Again im not trying to be a pushy prick just trying to make sure everyone is aware that that this isn't my first rodeo lol I've exhausted every option from tuning to check all my connections new rcas everything so im very sure it's not my equipment

I know you work at an aftermarket shop, but everyone is allowed to mess up. Are you 100% sure all of your polarities are correct?

No worries, I don't see your reply as rude at all, I totally understand being questioned when you are sure something is right. However, most of the time it is the simple things that get overlooked. The settings could have been bumped at some point during installation so you never know.

Maybe try disconnecting either the right or left input and see if the issue is still there? Maybe one of the converters could be bad?

your best option is to ditch the converter (a new HU should also make the stock speakers cleaner as well). Metra dash kit at BB is cheap and was in stock. Do you have Onstar? if you do then the Metra or pac haness is a little pricey without onstar its not bad. if you order online you will save alot on the harness compared to most retail stores.. but you might check with BB to see what they stock/$$.

Factory Onstar/Amplified sterio: (Bose/Monsoon)
GMOS-09: ~$80 amazon http://www.amazon.com/Metra-Electronics ... B000LUBR8S

Factory Onstar/Non Amplified sterios: (non Bose/Monsoon)
GMOS-05: ~80 Amazon

Factor Non Onstar/Non Amplied:
GMRC-04: $55 http://autoplicity.com/products/815263- ... MgodORUAvg
