my 99SE gas gauge is all messed up any advice.

My gas gauge is moving way to much it goes back and forth from empty to full and then all over the place right after i put a full tank in. any ideas of how to fix it? I think its the fuel sender but i could be wrong. and if it's the fuel sender could some one tell me the easy way to install a new one?

How many miles are on the car?

From the sounds of it the sender is the culprit. Unfortunately there is no easy way for our vintage of cars to change the pump or sender.

You have to drop the tank, so run it down as low as you dare. I believe the exhaust has to be dropped down some in order for the tank to make it out of the car. If your in the high mileage area (ie. 200,000 mi) I might think about doing a pump while you're at it.

This is of coarse as long as the gauge itself is fine. There have been a few cases where the gauge is the culprit.

mine did the same thing - after a strong dose of Seafoam seemed to settle down. don't think it is a long time cure but seemed to help mine for now.
