Reset button on DIC not responding

Post by Teebee03 »

This is a recurring problem on the wife's 2003 SSEi . Sometimes (becoming more often than not anymore) the reset button on the DIC won't reIset the function (ie tire pressure, gallons used, etc.). If I wait a while sometimes it will work or maybe not.

Is this problem common? I'm thinking the switch behind the button is in need of cleaning. Or is there another way to reset the tire pressure, gallons used, Avg MPG and oil change monitor? (Oil change, I think can be reset with gas pedal, right?)

If I were wanting to try and clean the switch under the button, does that little cover plate with the buttons pop out from the dash or does the dash cover have to come off first?

I have this problem as well. None of my buttons work though. My husband is wondering how to investigate and fix.

I might check that out. I just wonder if I have to take the whole dash out or if the little panel will come out separately.

How to remove the dash bezel is included in this write-up: http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... =18&t=7188

The little panel will come out of the big piece once you have it removed. If it is plugged in, and its not working... I'd suggest trying a different one. PM me if interested.

Sorry, I forgot to post about the solution to my issue. With instructions from harofreak, I was able to remove the dash and get the DIC module out. I was able to take it apart to find how it works. I took electronic cleaner solution on the end of a q-tip and cleaned all the connection points. After putting the unit back together, I reinstalled the module, and tried it it working fine. I wish now I had taken some pictures to show what it looks like and what I did to clean the points. I will say that the end of the q-tip was black and grimey.

I hope that this helps someone else that is experiencing a similar problem.
