New Transmission

Post by *B2* »

Feels great. I had it rebuilt by a local individual. He doesn't have a lot of exposure or a showy shop, but he does have an excellent reputation with transmissions and ours specifically. As a background, my 2000 SLE has approximately 150k miles on it and was experiencing pcs issues recently. It wasn't all the time, but when it acted up, it was bad. He said he could install a new pcs(without dropping the trans) for $200. It's a good deal, but at 150k, I didn't trust the rest of it much longer. So I opted for the full rebuild at $1200 cash out the door. I brought along a transgo shift kit for him to install as well bringing the total to about $1250. Not bad in my opinion. Well, it's done now and the car drives excellent. A new torque converter, upgraded 4th gear, and new pcs are all standard along with the usual rebuild items. He said the it had usual wear inside and the rebuild went smoothly. I saw my 4th gear which was nearly toast even though it was working fine before. Although it isn't always necessary, he also installed a new planetary gear. Apparently the older version has a bronze washer that acts as a bushing. The new are steel and wear less which will avoid developing a loose planetary gear. Apparently it's a good upgrade if you hotrod the car (who would do that?).

So, that's the story of a successful rebuild. I just wish I had done it sooner.

Awesome, good to hear it. I got lucky and one of the guys who was was a tenant of my parent's rebuilt transmissions, and he did the one on my 03. Still doing great after 40k.
