Hockey Puck Mount/ Bushing Question
Greetings,
I am looking to do the hockey puck mount and have most of the parts together, but am not sure about the bushing to be placed between two washers under the frame. Is there a bushing already used and in place on the original mount that may be reused, or should I just go buy a new one anyway?

There is no bushing. here is how it should be oriented: Bolt head > Washer > Bushing > Subframe > Hockey Pucks > Washers to fill gap > mount bracket > washer > nut > nyloc nut.

You don't need to buy a new one, a used swaybay bushing will work perfect.

I hope so. The car has a definite clunk when shifting into reverse especially.
I like "Penelope.". Very proper.
I named mine "Amber" and was told by a friend that it sounds like a "stripper name."
No defense to that; she's the sort of the thing you're not supposed to like in polite company (Supercharged Pontiac w/ not so great fuel mileage which runs on premium fresh squeezed whale oil vs. an electric Toyota that helps protect baby seals.), but you find you just can't help yourself and look forward to the big grin when you go for a ride.

There is a nice difference with the solid mount, plus knowing it won't fail is nice.
The fresh squeezed whale oil thing made me laugh...it is mostly just fatty acids, that S/C oil, and BOY does it stink when it's got 48k miles on it, I can only imagine what the oil in my friend's dad's GTP smells like at 160k, never been opened.

I'm really not a fan of the solid mount. I dont like "feeling" the engine in the steering wheel/whole car. Yes I have recycled the rubber endlinks as well, but I still get a minor vibration at certain random speeds in the steering wheel around 1200-1400RPM. Advance/Oriely/Autozone offer lifetime front OEM mounts for $62.99. I'm sticking with those from now on.nos4blood70 wrote:You're gonna love the difference.
The 3800 is not exactly the smoothest engine at all RPM ranges and since that solid mount REALLY holds the motor to the subframe, you feel everything which is good and bad. The design is prone to failure however, they should have made the mount 2-3 times bigger or just used a hydraulic design.
Even with the endlink bushings, If you put your ebrake down all the way and put it in drive and hit the throttle body a few times you will notice there is virtually no movement of the engine. If you look closely at the cross member where the center front mount attaches, it will flex slightly when rev'd in drive.

Maybe I just have driven a lot of *shoot* cars but I always thought the 3800 was a *dang* smooth engine. Most of my 3800 experiences are in Buicks and Oldsmobiles though.

The ONLY time I feel anything from it, really, is about 1200rpm if I hold it there leaving the driveway. That's it.

I get a slight vibration from my solid mount, though it will only do it with while accelerating between 1400-1600 rpm with the torque converter locked up in 3rd or 4th gear.

^ This is true. Feels awesome. I only get the vibrations when the motor is cold, like below freezing cold. All gone once she warms up. But the vibrations get pretty god *dang* ridiculous if you try to accelerate with the torque converter locked up.
All in all I'm happy with the mount. I guess it's a subjective thing but I got it for like 4 bucks so it was essentially free. My favorite part .

You get a hockey puck from a sports place, or e-bay if you can't find any locally. Everything else you can get at a hardware store or a fastener supply like Fastenal.
