2000 SSEi - oil pressure gone crazy

Post by David CO »

My 2000 SSEi Bonne (163K) started to show red zone oil pressure today when I am at low speeds or idle at a stop. When I press the gas it comes back up to normal.

I did replace the oil pressure sensor on the back of the engine near the Power Steering pump a few years back, could it have gone out already? Or is this a sign of something bigger?
It seems I also replaced a sensor inside the oil pan about 4 years ago

Thanks

Replace the Pressure sender with an AC Delco or Delphi unit, then give us a reading.

Thanks for the info.
Should I not drive it at all until I get the sensor replaced? I am trying to decide if I should just rent a car for the weekend until I can get to the sensor.

David Definitely replace the oil presser sensor I have 2 Bonnevilles same year as yours I have had to replace them multiple times. One time I didnt have a choice but to drive it for about 2 weeks.... it was fine till I fixed it.

If the engine isn't knocking when it shows the oil pressure at 0, its probably just a bad sensor. If the oil pressure was indeed 0, the engine would sound like crap.
