I went to Autozone and they gave me a readout that kind of blew my mind. Please let me describe it to everyone and see if some of you can make some sense of all of this.
Problem No: 1
PO171 - Fuel Trim one condition.
Explanation.
The Powertrain Control Module uses the oxygen sensor to calculate the air/fuel ratio of the engine. the computer has recognized a rick or lean condition on one engine bank only. if bank one and two codes set together suspect fuel pressure of MAF(Mass Air Flow sensor)
Probable Cause;
Oxygen Sensor Defective.
Ignition Repair.
Fuel Injector Problem.
That is the list that was givin to me after I had the computer readout. Does anyone have any advice before I start with the plugs or after Im done with the plugs. I don't want to *fook* with the crankshaft position sensor. let alone the other stuff. Ox sensor and MAF. Please help out. so that if I have to do this advice would be helpful and extremely thankful. Mike b.
Problem No: 2
PO300
Definition.
Cylinder Misfire Detected - Random Cylinders.
The Powertrain Control Module monitors the crankshaft speed and has detected a misfire condition.
Probable Cause;
Ignition System Fault Spark Plugs, Ignition wires, Coil.
aa2 - Vacuum Leak.
aa3 - Injector Fault.
aa4 High or Low Fuel Pressure.
Problem No 3:
PO336
Definition:
aa - Crankshaft Position Sensor condition expaination.
Proboable Cause;
aa1 - Crank sensor Defective.
aa2 - Check Connector and Wiring to Sensor.
aa3 - Check Trigger Wheel for Damage.

Re: autozone computer readout
The first two could be caused by a vacuum leak. Let the engine idle and listen real close for hissing. Hissing from anywhere but the TB itself warrants a closer look. Look for cracked/loose vacuum hoses, and keep in mind, the brake booster should not be hissing either. You can also spray TB cleaner around hoses and gasketed joints. If the idle falters or otherwise changes when you spray a particular area, there is likely a vacuum leak.

Re: autozone computer readout
thanks I will try that. A friend mentioned that might be the problem. My brother is coming tonight and we are going to fix the wires and the spark plugs. But I am afraid that as long as the crankshaft sensor unit is screwed up, it is going to give me headaches when I ride. and the fix is a pain in the but. is it true i have to take the serpentine belt off. remove the harmonic balance and then replace the crank sensor.

Re: autozone computer readout
You do have to do all that to replace the crank sensor. I'd check the wiring first for worn off insulation. Does the engine ever cutout momentarily?

Re: autozone computer readout
I just changed the plugs and the wires. The car is running so much better however the engine light is still on and every once and a while as i am driving the car seems to jerk a couple of times. nothing major, just a couple of bump,bump and it is usually as I am giving it gas as I am approaching a hill. but running much better since replacing wiring and plugs. I will get another computer readout and keep u informed. thanks. mike.
