Maybe this weekend.

Post by SSEimatt93 »

Looks like the SSEi is due for another top end tear down.
Lower intake manifold is leaking coolant on the outside, drips down the transmission, and makes a bit of a mess.
SC coupler is shot, I've never had one of these wear out on me before, but I do know what it sounds like/feels like, and mine is definitally gone.
Might have to De-mote the G8 to the driveway and park the SSEi in the garage in the mean time to start tearing it down. Once I have all the gaskets/orings/sealent/sc oil/coolant/engine oil, I can do the entire job pretty easily in half a day with my air tools.
Can't really think of anything else I need to change while I am in there, only done it 3 times on this car...this time..going to use the good AC Delco LIM gaskets.

Since I'll be bringing my tools to Alberta next few weeks, if we get run out of my daughter's house early we'll be knocking in your door looking for a place to sleep. I don't mind sleeping on AL7's if you don't mind me playing with your dipstick.

Hahaha, You won't need to sleep in a car. We've got a spare room in the basement with an attached full bathroom. Beer fridge is in the furnace room within stumbling distance. The dog might pose intrest in you for a few minutes, then he will go back to sleep for 14-16hours.

Well the parts FINALLY got here from Intense. Canada Postal strike...what a mess.
Got a start on it last night. Pulled it into my garage, aired up my compressor, got out my impact, adapters, sockets...and other misc tools. Started at 5:45pm, when the girlfriend got home at 7:20, I was putting my tools back away, had the following removed:
Alternator, STB, Alternator brakets, Throttle Body/Air intake, fuel rail, Supercharger, Thermostat and housing, and the lower intake manifold. Keep in mind I have not done this particular job in about 3.5 years, but..its kind of like riding a bike..once you've done it, you never forget how. I took some pics, will post later. At work right now with my new fuel rail (From Andrew..bought a LONG time ago and stored), LIM, and spare valve head cover are in the parts washer at work.
Hopefully make some headway tonight, got some clean up to do. Might try to take it to Red Deer this weekend (275 miles one way). After this, I need to chase down my HVAC problem.

Well, the entire engine is back together. Every nut, bolt, washer, gasket and oring.
Key on, fuel pressure holds around 50, perfect, no leaks.
Now onto doing an oil change before start up. Drain the oil into my catch pan..pretty simple..done it lots..
Remove the oil filter...
hmm..wow thats on there tight....
45 MINUTES LATER WOW THAT THING IS REALLY *fook* ON THERE AND IS NOT COMING OFF!!!!
I tried my gator grip, gloves, ole screw driver through it...NOTHING...I'm borrowing a filter wrench from work today...gotta get it done!!!! I want it out of my garage tonight!!!
Couldn't believe it!

And YES, I lube the oring up before installing the filter, every single oil change..

C'mon Matt, you don't have an oil filter wrench?! That's like #3 of the things every good mechanic needs, right after Duct Tape and 911.

Hey, give him a break guys! A Canadian oil filter wrench costs $150.

Matt's hands are strong enough normally to twist the head off a transvestite. :)

He's understandably under a lot of pressure right now......what with his change of life coming up.......

Pound 2 scredrivers through it and then use a pinbar to push against the screwdrivers.
