Your kidding. So what is you get another factory radio for a JY. Would you still have to get the code from the dealer? It seems there shoudl be a fix for turning the code off.

This only applies to 00+.
99 and older are self-programmable.

When you repair the lights on the radio in the 2000+, does the radio lock when you put it back in?

If the radio is coming out of and going back in to the same car in 00+ it is programmed and knows that it is in the correct, or same, car. If you change from one car to another it will realize it is in a different car and lock itself until unlocked and re-programmed by the dealership scanner. It's a theft-deterrent feature. Call around several dealers because they all charge different amounts to unlock and reprogram, anywhere from $40 up to $99, and be ready to prove it is your radio and not stolen.

search google for unlock "delco theftlock radio". plenty of help to be found on this. actually i just did this this past weekend after i picked up another jy cd radio. the gist is, with the radio off your press 2 and 3 until 3 numbers appear. then you press am/fm to get another set of 3 numbers. then theres a number you call and you follow the prompts and enter the 6 numbers you got from the radio. i dont have the exact number to call right now but like i said, if you google it, the help is readily available. takes about 10 mins and no need to pay the dealer.
figured id just go find it:
