condensation in the center taillight assembly

Post by jet020 »

I noticed a posting about a member having the dreaded condensation problem in his Bonneville center tail light assembly. Is this a reacurring problem? I purchased a 2005 Bonneville SE last month and I love it. It is in absolutely mint condition however it has moving water in the center taillight assembly that you can see slushing around when you pop open the trunk. I noticed a tiny hole with a grommet located directly underneath the bottom of the outside assembly portion that the service manager said was a drain hole that was probably plugged. When I got home I inserted a small sharp piece of plastic that easily went inside but alas no water drained out. Will I have to remove the whole piece to drain the water and let dry out and will this be a reacurring problem during the wet season. Any help will be appreciated. Love my Bonneville!

It should be a completely sealed unit. There is something wrong with yours. See if you can find the leak, get all the water/condensation out, and then plug it up.

If you are interested, I have good ones for sale.

Those grommets are drains for the trunk lid, not the taillight section. You could drill a small hole in the bottom of the lid, but that's masking the problem, not fixing it.

Thanks for the reply Harofreak. Let me know how to contact you on a possible replacement. Other than the moisture mine looks pretty nice on the outside but I might go the replacement route depending on what you have.
