Getting rid of the other car...

Post by sleguy »

We're really getting sick of all the problems we're having with our 2002 Buick Rendezvous. Its not an easy vehicle to work on myself, so its costing me. Not to mention, we're not SUV fans in the first place. But somehow it gives me pause when I'm getting rid of the 9 year old car with 83k miles and keeping the 12 year old car with 148k miles. The Bonneville will now have to last until whatever car we get is paid for. Its in great shape for its age and mileage, but I'm nervous.

As long as you are up to date on the UIM/LIM gaskets, you have no reason to worry.

I agree. If those are up to date and you keep all the other maintenance up, there should be no reason to worry.

I couldn't agree more with the above comments. Trust me when I say I drive my Bonneville like I stole it everyday, and it still runs like a new car ;)

My 140k+ mile Bonneville gave me less headaches than my 2006, 80,000 mile VW.. But a very modern engine, brand new transmission type, etc..

I am at 188,000 miles... And I have put the car through the Hell bent paces of driving it like I stole it... The first engine went due to 2 things... The upper intake failure did some damage... I did another 80,000 on that motor and ended up with massive piston slap on Cylinder 4... This was partly my own fault for the way I abused that engine... The second engine had an intake issue somewhere along the line and the bearings were pitted causing the engine failure.. 3rd engine has been great... And its all on the original Transmission... Don't get me wrong its had its fair share of issues due to age, mileage and the way I drive... But it has not been too bad to work on or maintain.. I am just amazed the original Trans is still with me...

I would be More than willing to keep the Bonneville in your situation..
