Air ride compressor - runs no compression - how to fix?

Post by Cooey »

I have been running without my compressor for a while now and I want to fix it. The compressor motor runs [noisily] but there is no air compression happening. When I recently had my struts replaced with "Monroe Sensa-Trac-as-close-to-the- original -as-you-can-get" # 171798 [the Quik strut is recommended because apparently often the strut mounts are worn out and need to be replaced] my idea was confirmed that my compressor needed some attention. I removed it from the car which was not that difficult to do surpisingly given my lack of finesse.

So now what can I do to try to salvage it before I go looking for a good used part?

one thing that I had happen was my drier went bad and it would not put out any PSI, replaced it and it has been fine since

it is easier to just find a good working one at a junkyard and replace the whole assembly, instead of trying to swap parts. If it is noisy you want to replace the compressor anyway.

The little spring clip/clamp that holds the drier onto the compressor head came loose on mine and it would run all the time. Obvious clue is that you can jiggle the drier around. See large arrow:
