Suspension CLUNK!

Post by Shae »

Alright, new problem :banghead:

I have a clunk from the front left. The clunk seems to be something shifting back and forth. It also happens when I have the breaks to the floor (car stands still and can still make it clunk).

I put it in reverse, push the gas enough *clunk*
Then when i go back into drive and accelerate *clunk* (only the first time i accelerate after being in reverse)

Now it wont do it again, until i go back into reverse.

And like i said, it will do it if i have my foot on the breaks, and give it a little gas.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like a motor mount. As when they go bad the engine has excessive movement and can make clunking noises. Just had to replace the mount on mine.

I thought this to, but the motor itself doesnt seem to move very much, and it only does it the first time shifting into reverse/drive..

and a addon note, Im noticing a bit of noise now from that same area when i go over bumps, almost like somethings loose and shaking..

The most likely suspect is upper strut mount bearings. Lower control arm bushings are a very rare failure. Lubricate the upper strut mounts by spraying some white lithium grease into them (remove the upper black caps) and see if the problem changes any. If so, you've found your problem.
