I do not know the real name for it but under your dash behind the glove box there is a black box with vacume hoses going to it. The box new costs $780.00 new ,used if it works around 65-80 dollars .You do have to remove your console and dash pad to get to the box. There is a article with photos of the dash without the pad on the site it I'll have to look Around the same time you might want to replace your Air Mix Actuator $65.00 dealer item this controls hot to cold air settings.MAKE SURE YOU DISSCONNECT THE BATTERY because the pass. airbag is connected to the dash cover "the relay is under the dash on the passenger side for the air bag"Look for a article in the techinfo under the title CARE AND FEEDING the article show you with photos how to clean your EVAP system -if your airflow is not a high flowing through your vents this is the true fix!! novakautoparts.com 1-800-452-4343 1640 RT 68 New Brighton Pa.15066 near Zeilenople Pa. if that helps Mon-Fri 8-5 p.m. no sat hours I live north of Pittsburgh Novacks is about 25 min from me .I'll try to find some pics. of the parts July 9,2010 Aloha Matt

Pictures to Help I hope Definitly a long weekend project make sure you order parts and check all parts before putting dash back together .Under your battery there is a vacume canister see if it connected you might want to follow the vacume line by the frame to the firewall and replace the hose. The hose does tend to break apart from age.On the fuse panel "on your firewall" under that panel is how you get to to removing your relay dissconnect the battery !!!!!!
Spray parts cleaner in there on the vent you see down in there then flow some water through in there put rags in the car on the floor the water will come into the car alot really have a shop vacume near you.You should see water coming out under the car to clearing the vent in the lower firewall of obstuction to ...Your airflow through your vents will be like a new car ....Aloha Matt

If it's only going to defrost, you might have a dead controller. Are the lights operating on it? Does it change lights when go from one flow direction to another?m1030w6 wrote:Hi guys, as the title says im having a problem with my heater/ac vent positions.. it is stuck on the defrost n floor position and will not move to any other position. does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

The symptom of NO VACUUM is that you can't leave defroster mode for the air flow. If it's your programmer box, that usually sucks the insides of the soft plastic connector for the 6 vacuum hoses shut and blocks vacuum to the dash vents first.
Usually the other settings work and you can hear the doors moving between floor, windshield/floor, defrost.
I suspect you aren't getting vacuum at all. Check the soft rubber connectors on the black plastic vacuum line. Start at the UIM right next to the brake booster hose. Then check at the T--take off the Relay center cover. Then check the reservoir under the right front fender in front of the wheel. Look for cracks. With the motor freshly turned off, removing the hose should give a large whoosh as air rushes into the container.
Inside the car you should have vacuum at the violet hose where it connects to the black plastic hose coming through the firewall all the way at the right.
If it's the soft plastic connector, use rubber vacuum hose to make pieces 1.5 inches to bridge from inside the box to the outside lines.
I checked plastic tubing at Lowes and it's slightly loose over the vacuum lines.
