USB port

I would like to play music from my IPOD through my radio, does anybody know if it is possible to add a USB port from my stock radio in my 2004 GXP? is it a difficult thing to do?

No, you cannot add usb to the stock radio.

But if you have xm, you can add an aux in.

First thing you'll need is a headphone extension cable, about a 25ft. I got a panel mount one online, so that i could make it look almost factory. You'll need to remove interior pieces from where you plan to mount the jack, along with the back seat and trunk carpet on the left side.

Basically you'll need to run the cable from your mounting location (mine is in the ashtray), all the way through the car to the trunk XM module in the left rear of the trunk. This ran through the dash, along the floorboards, under the back seat, etc. Then when you get the end of the cable near the XM box, cut it off.

You'll then wire the cable in parallel with 3 wires from the XM stuff. The red wire goes to the Brown/white wire. The white wire goes to the green/white wire. The silver braided wire goes to the black/white common audio wire. This is all i had to do. I put the car back together and tested it out.

How it works:
So I turn my car on, and put it on XM radio. It finds a channel, and starts to play. Then when i plug in my ipod, for some reason the car senses the impedance change or something, because it lowers the volume of the XM channel, but you can still here it during quiet parts of your song. So you need to go to XM channel 0, the radio ID channel. It is crystal clear audio.


If you don't use xm at all, then you could forgo wiring in parallel, and just leave those three wires from the xm box disconnected. You have to leave the rest of the wires connected, because the radio has to see the signal from the box in the databus harness.

sounds like i will have to try that i am using an FM transmitter right now and it is a pain and does not work very well. thanks for your help

FM transmitters suck anywhere near civilization. There are just too many radio stations, and they broadcast at a higher power than your transmitter.

You'll love this mod. I have been using it for almost 2 years now in my car, and use it almost everyday. Sounds perfect, and is super easy to use.

i finally got around to running a wire for my ipod from the XM radio wires and it works great. the extension cord i got did have red,black and braided and not red,white and braided but easy job. should have got it done alot sooner. thanks for the info on how to do it.

i also realized that putting the xm radio on channel 3 which has no talking clears up having to hear voices during low times.

Where did you guys get your cables? I cannot find the right one. Do I need to get a male to female then just cut the male end off?

I did this a few weeks ago and I bought my cable from the shack! and yes that's pretty much what it looked like!

yup cut the male end off! I ran mine under all the carpet on the drivers side and then through a hole in the carpet under the seat. the cable comes out on the inside of my seat and then its tucked under the console along the carpet and comes out right by where my keys hang. all you can see is about 2 inches of the cable by my seat.

I was also gonna do mine there for a more factory look but I thought if I ever got an aftermarket radio I could easily remove plus at the time I just didnt feel like taking it all apart! lol

Dont use anything that looks like a tape. Monster sells an Ipod frequency transponder that plugs into your Ipod and transmits and recharges your Ipod while you use it and you can adjust the station to whatever frequecy you want your Ipod to be playing on. I use a frequency where there is no radio staions occupy.

The problem is that those FM transmitters don't work nearly as well as a direct line-in.
