half shaft and ball joint drivers side

Post by irish91983 »

Hi All

Today i took a turn and my half shaft just snaped in half and also snaped my ball joint to. I got a new half shaft and new ball joint, my problem is that i have the old ball joint and the old half shaft out but i cant get the bolts out that hold the strut to the hub the nuts are off but bolts are stuck. I have tried to raise the hub to take pressure off and use a all most a whole can of pb blast and still nothing. My question is did i miss some thing some where.

Thanks Keith

No they just suck sometimes. I had to use an air hammer to get mine to move, and even then they fought.

put the nut on and try tapping it with a hammer(dont mushroom the nut) while turning the bolt with a ratchet, worked for me.
If it were quick and easy everyone would be doing it!

The bolts are likely gaulded into place with rust. When I replaced my rear air struts, I fought with them, too. A sledge hammer wouldn't budge mine (mine were original from 95). I bought new bolts (I bought them from Advance Auto Parts) and then called my father to bring his hot wrench (torch). We heated them until they finally would tap out with the sledge hammer. You may have to resort to this yourself. Good luck.
