Ok... So the stock mount on the 03 SLE has too much play for me... I just can't stand it.. Where do I get the Hockey Pucks... How long of a Bolt do I need? Do you double Nut or use a Nylock nut?

As well will a Urethane bushing work on the bottom side of the frame to help absorb vibrations?

Looking for any info here.. Everything I have searched seems a little Vague

old end link bushing works good for under the bolt head on the bottom

you want three hockey pucks (any sports store), each drilled with a 1/2" hole....

then buy a 8" long bolt, about 6, 2" washers and 2, 1" washers for under the bolt head and under the locking nuts, and two locking nuts for the top

I used a nylon lock nut, and an 8" bolt. the endlinks didn't really help my vibration much to be honest, it is still there.

I actually uses a bushing on each side of the bracket bolted to the top of the mount. I am also using the block style.

The bushing on both sides take out a lot of the vibrations during accelerations and I also did not want a hard return on the bracket when releasing the accelerator.

Basically I have a dampnening bushing for both directions of the twist on the bracket.

There is actually a bushing under the bracket in this photo, and it is not tightened yet either:




I used 1/2" all thread with nyloc nuts and drilled out the bushings and used some large washers.

Ryan, I had put that rubber marshmallow I bought from you on the first time (actually Juan did) because my stock one went to crap, and after it was installed, I was still getting the vibrations at OD, so I'm glad you posted that you were experiencing the same thing so that I know I wasn't going bananas. I went out to O'Reilly's and bought an aftermaket OEM mount, in which case that took care of the vibe problem, however, the engine now shakes like it did before, and this mount looks like it going to the garbage can real quick, so I'll also be trying the pucks this time (or maybe back to the MM again depending on two factors).

b. I want NO vibrations whatsoever at the different speeds.

The bushing needs to be between the washer and the subframe on the underside of the subframe, that will really cut down on the vibs, it did for me. I ran the bolt from the top down.

I've got that as well as dampening on both sides of the bracket up top and i still get vibrations. I know some don't, but I do.

If that ends up being the case, I think I'll let Dr. Juan install the pucks instead. He swears on a stack of bibles that he doesn't get these vibes in his BV.

Guys, motor/transmission mounts do two things.

1) Stabilize the engine/trans to eliminate unneccesary rocking (thereby eliminating clunking, thunking, and what not when a sharp transition, or gear shift is made).

2) To isolate the natural rocking and vibration that an engine naturally makes so as not to transmit that as NVH through to the passenger compartment.

By doing the hockey pucks (which being a very hard rubber do have some give in them), or blocks as above, you're fixing point #1 but you're NOT fixing point #2, and may actually be making it worse. This would explain why some feel it to be "rougher" after installation. "Well yea, DUH". That almost like putting solid motor mounts in the car. It helps from a performance standpoint as you eliminate the wasted energy from the engine rocking into power transmission through the chassis, but you're going to feel every misfire, every change in throttle, everything.

Jovan, I'd go back to either the OEM unit, or whatever you can get as an OEM replacement from work. You'll fix #1 and you'll be much more pleased on the highway with #2 as the soft OEM design is MEANT to absorb those rockings and vibrations.

I think we all realize that.. this is just a more permanent solution, as the OEM mounts seem to go out again and again.

But your "permanent solution" isn't fixing point #2. Or at least not fixing it to a level of satisfaction HE wants!

I know Jovan personally. Jovan wants Lincoln Town Car/Cadillac Sedan DeVille, highway, pillow like, cruiser ride. He's NOT going to be happy feeling every RPM the engine makes.

So if he needs to replace another OEM style one in 30k, He'll do it without batting an eyelash. Truth be told (and I tease him of this), he probably won't have the car for another 30k.

I like "feeling" the car, so the vibs I do get dont bother me. The bonneville is a Sport Sedan, well thats what I call it.

I run either solid or a poly mount in my performance cars, trust me, I FEEL everything a camming motor does!

Naw, he prefers a *dang* Lincoln. I can't get him out of them!! When I take him to the auto show, I just drop him off at the Lincoln exhbit and then set a time to pick him up a couple hours later... :D

Yeah I get vibes from mine at certain times. I got some rubber bushings, but I kept blowing them out. The first time I tightened and squished it too much. The second time I didn't tighten it as much, but it still broke apart. I went to lowes and got some rubber washers instead. They worked out well. I'm going to go get a few more and put some in a few spots to see if that helps the vibrations any.

I want to say the bolt I got was only 4.5 or 5 inches long.

I never liked the puck only design so I bought a heavy duty rubber grout smoother for tile jobs and cut out puck circles to help improve the vibrations and shock. Going to install soon so ill let you know how it goes.
