Aftermarket Stereo in the GXP

Post by SAMzGXP »

i really dont like the sound system in my car.. its nothin too special.. im thinking double din.. not sure if clarion on Pioneer..
so i have few questions about installing a new deck..
what would i need? all i know is that my car have onstar and the monsoon sound system(is that the same as bose sound system? because all the modules seems to be for the bose nothin for monsoon)..i would love to keep everything from onstar to chiming to everything... if not.... not a biggie
would i need a fitting kit for the double din? or is it straight bolt on? and do i need to cut the dash?

what about the wiring harness? what do i need to keep the chiming and onstar working? any input is really appreciated..

please for you with answers post links to where i can buy the parts if you got any
thanks

This is my install in my 03, should be exactly the same.
My onstar and steering wheel controls do not work but chimes do.
I think you can get an adapter to make it work but not 100% sure, I never used hand controls or onstar anyways.

It's really easy to get your steering wheel controls to work.

PAC makes 2 different things to use and they both include all the instructions you'd need to get it to work. They also supply a contact number and you can actually call and speak to a person while your installing if your having problems.

They have 2 version the first is a swix which is a universal one but it's kind of a pain because you have to program what it.

The second is a swips version that is plug and play on pioneer and other units.

I put one in a 200? jeep grand cherokee and it was pretty easy.

I think the harness was a metra harness IIRC. Pretty sure it was the cheaper one.

They have different ones that work with onstar and others that are just for your warning chimes. The cheap one used to sell for around $40 at walmart, the onstar compliant versions are usually upwards of $80 and higher.

His is an sle.

I think dock n lock is how the radio slides into the slot and you don't have to plug the radio into the harness in the back. You just put the radio in the slot and push it back, thus dock n lock. I don't know for sure that's just my assumption.

Yup, It was so long ago I don't remember how much mine was...?

I think the one with onstar was 129.99 at CC.
