Re: Top Speed
What is the top speed in H rated tires? 138? I've had mine up to 110 on a 2 mile straight road, slightly uphill, and it was still pulling HARD, but i will not do that until i get new tires, the rears are fairly well worn out, dad won't buy me new ones till fall unless i get a blowout or flat that ruins the tire.
Bye Bye:

Re: Top Speed
Fastest I've ever in the GS or the old Bonnies was 108. 108 is more than enough for me.
Three weeks ago I set a new perosonal record of 125 in the Firehawk. Honestly, I really have no desire to go that fast again. It didn't do much for me.

HUD hit 136 before I let off. She was still pullin' hard too.
Probably could've hit 150+ if I kept going.

After I hit 88 once and found my dad playing in a sandbox in 1955 I decided to take it easy on the gas pedal. Besides, with gas prices so high now days who really needs to be putting the effort into traveling to alternate time dimensions. Pfft not me!

Re: Top Speed
uh huh, it came modded when i got it and i had track slips that came with the car showing it was running 11 sec at 148mph. The prev owner did a whole bunch of stuff to the car, and after each mod, he would take it to the track and run it. I got lucky finding that car at the dealership, and was so sad when that 18 wheeler helped it meet its demiseharofreak00 wrote:mods?94SSEgold wrote:GTP 160

I have only been up to about 94 MPH in mine, and that was at the track, a bit past the 1/4 mile marker (I hit about 92 MPH at the 1/4 mile marker), then I had to slow down because the end was near.

Re: Top Speed
108 in the 89, felt smooth as can be amazingly enough. But only did that a couple times, far, FAR away from traffic or even general population. Broke my strut spring seat at around 80...that was...well..fun. Thats when I never went much above 75 again...even with 4 new struts and many new suspension components, brakes, etc.
95-100 in the 93. The tires on the back at the time..well..they sucked horribly. Mismatched 215/60R16s in the back and matching but worn 225/60 Lifeliner SLEs on the front. It didn't feel quite as smooth at 100 as the 89...but thats also probably because the alignment was also slightly off at the time. This was in the middle of nowhere in Indiana. I would definitely trust it to around 125 now with the new tires, but 125 is it...since they're only H rated hah.
I definitely think the 87-91s had a lower drag coefficient. Or at least designed a little better to hunker down a bit at high speeds.
Anyone know the drag numbers over the years and by trim (bumpers)? Will, you posted 0.36? Thats tested or estimated?
And in the truck...did 105 and it seemed to hit a limiter. My tires are not only S rated (112), but already have a pretty nasty shake at 80. Maybe I'll try another run when I can afford a new set of Revos or something. Sure does feel nice at 90ish though. Nice road outside Sarasota/Bradenton to drive on. 60 limit, but thats only because its a 2 lane. You feel like you're the last person on earth
Nice way to get to the other coast in a hurry if needed.

Re: Top Speed
GPS units are only inaccurate on curved roads, being as they see in a straight line from your position at spot "A" and your position at spot "B". This may not seem like much, but trust me, it makes a difference. If you are on a straight line run, the GPS should be pretty accurate so long as it is a good system by a trusted manufacturer. IE, I would trust a Garmin middle unit more than I would trust a TomTom high end unit... We use these on the Railroad all the time, and guys have fought their investigations and won because the RR claimed they weren't going the speed they were suppoesed to. (Judging off the GPS units on the locomotive units.)MaxNismo wrote:i thought GPSs were notorious for being off for mph?willwren wrote:My HUD is within 1mph of my GPS over 140.
Yes, aero drag plays a huge factor the faster you go. Weight of the car and hp/tq/gearing mean less and less the faster you go, and it's a logarithmic function.
i know for a fact you can't used them to fight speeding tickets because of their inaccuracy...
also your trannies gearing wouldn't let you ever hit 200mph...Spirit of Bonneville hit it with modified gears right? that tranny they used wouldn't be very useful in a 1/4 mile or on the street...

Re: Top Speed
Before any mods mine hit the limiter (200 KPH / 133 MPH) while still accelerating nicely, and on a rather steep uphill stretch I might add.
I have to say that I felt pretty comfortable with handling. The the faster I went the lower it seemed to suck down on the road (due to angular wedge shape of car??). One thing I noticed was some pretty loud wind resistance noise. I let off right away only for fear of any surprise wildlife appearences. I also once took a turn in the road at about 180 KPH and it was like it was riding a rail.
Solid autobahn car.
Though I won't tempt going faster (despite now possible with current mods), not until better tires and suspension upgrades.
I'm into acceleration, not as much on high speed.
