And of course the installation instructions, also covering your question about the old stovepipe.

Ok, as long as you are aware that this is a temporary fix (I would GUESS in the 2-3 year range). On first inspection my old UIM, or Plenum by another name, is in good used condition. I did not see any cracking or deterioration in the coolant port/egr area. I mentioned I purchased an APN kit for my repair. It turns out only my LIM gaskets were leaking, not the UIM/gaskets. I installed the kit as I had already paid for it. It came with both a 3/4" stovepipe, and a 5/8" stovepipe. I used agrazelas ported LIM (an older model with the 3/4" fitting). This leaves me with a 5/8" stovepipe that will fit a newer style LIM like yours. What the smaller stovepipe accomplished in the old style kit is create more space between the hot EGR stovepipe and the plastic crap GM used for an intake manifold. In the APN kit they add another metal bushing that helps protect the plastic like a heat shield. It is pictured on the APN website above. By using my old UIM and the smaller 5/8" pipe you get more airspace between the metal and plastic, and thus, less of a chance that the UIM will crack and deteriorate. It will probably deteriorate eventually but this will buy some time. I will try to get a pic of how it will look on your setup. I will check my UIM really well to make sure it is in reusable condition. I will post back tomarrow and let you know if it is ok and what shipping would be.

Okay, I understand the chances. Is there any place I can order the reduced diameter stovepipe individually?

I'll GIVE you one :)

Ok here's what I've got. I cleaned things up a bit and the manifold looks perfect to me. There is NO deterioration around any of the coolant ports or the egr. If I had known it was in this condition I never would have purchased the APN for myself. Here are some pictures: http://s617.photobucket.com/albums/tt26 ... OR%20SALE/

Comes with everything here, and my old vacuum fitting: (I am selling the lower manifold seperately, of course)

The difference between the stock and APN stovepipe in a OEM UIM: This pipe will sit lower when installed in your manifold.

Sorry about the fuzzy pictures, my camera is terrible at close-ups. I will find out shipping here sortly.

Kep in mind, those injector o-rings probably won't fit, but I've got three sets that size now, and if they work for you, at least one set will get used. Also you could probably find a piece of steel pipe for a "bushing" and just cut it to fit and epoxy it in place. You would then have the equivalent of an APN kit.

Okay, I am starting to get a little nervous because I can't find anything wrong with my UIM.

Please tell me that you see something on it that looks bad.

Edit -- I just found the issue and the drill bit I found the hole with was 1/16th of an inch thick. Wow. To think something with such a small diameter could almost cause such engine failure.

Well, since you had the issues and hadn't replaced the UIM, but had replaced the LIM gaskets, so it wasn't hard to figure out.

Yeah, UPS was unable to deliver it Thurs. due to gusts of wind in Erie, but I picked up earlier today and got it running. At first I had an issue with getting it started since it hydro-locked a second time. I ended up pulling the plugs five times and turning the engine over with a socket and ratchet, but all said and done, it runs like a charm. I drove it 3 hours to see my girlfriend for valentine's day and it hasn't failed me yet. It is running on champion plugs temporarily, but it still seemed to get pretty good mileage on the highway. The install was pretty easy.

Thanks for the UIM!!

With all the coolant you've ingested, I'd advise changing the oil one or two more times in the next few hundred miles, to be safe(r).

First time it hydrolocked last Tues. I got it running that night and changed the oil. The next day, when it hydrolocked again, I had to order in my UIM. I fixed it all yesterday let it run for over 2 hours and then changed my oil and drove it 170 miles. So. yeah I will keep an eye on my oil pressure and probably change it soon again, but It was changed twice in the past week.
