Rinsed off the G6 GT

Post by Bichselmnop »

Finally got above freezing today so I decided to clean up the G6 a bit.

I can't wait until the spring when I can really clean this thing up.

Very nice, my grandma has a convertible G6 (which they chose over a mustang, my grandmas dream car) and she loves hers. It definetly hauls with the 3.9

How do you guys like the G6's and how do they compare with the Bonnevilles
I'm gonna be getting a car and bonnevilles are great cars but G6's are sporty little cars too

They are quite a bit smaller, but still have pretty good leg and headroom (especially in the convertible...) The 3.9L has WAY more pick-up than my Bonne, but thats to be expected, the 3.9 has like 240 horses and the G6 is considerably lighter.

They have the same ISS problem that other W bodies have.

Yeah, compared to the Bonneville they are a lot sportier. I have the 3.5 in mine and it definitely is so much faster than my Bonneville was. On gas, it sucks a little in town. I think I get around 20ish in town and it says I get 34 on the highway, but my average is 27mpg overall. The ISS problem is there but when mine made one clunk the dealership replaced it no questions asked. I thought the G6 was on the epsilon instead of the W body. If you do get a G6, get a GT or GTP. The base model is rental car all the way.

I am pretty sure you're right about it being on the epsilon platform, I was just saying it has the same ISS issues as the W bodies.

You can get the 3.5 for the base model. My GF has one and it pretty much has everyone option the GT does but isn't labeled one. Spoiler, nicer rims, onstar, fog lamps, the computer that tells you stuff, and remote start. They call it the sport package I believe. It just doesn't have leather or a sunroof.

Be glad yours didn't come with a sunroof. The mechanic that bought my Bonneville said that those panoramic sunroofs are nothing but trouble.

That's what my dad rolls too. A base G6 with the VVT 3.5 but has all the options including a sunroof. No leather though. At first I thought it was a GT model but apparently it's not. I honestly couldn't tell you the difference between a GT and his optioned out base model. I like em except for the *dang* throttle lag. It just drives me nuts.

Ya the throttle lag sucks but otherwise its a pretty neat car. I always have trouble driving it at first when I switch from my car to hers.

Kinda off topic but is there a way to look up if my G6 has side air bags? I've got little tabs on my A and B pillars near where I think they would be but I'm not sure.

if it had side air bags, it would be in the seatbacks. I have curtain side airbags in my Saab, it says so on the a pillar

Those are just the tabs that cover the screw hole that holds the molding on (I am pretty sure) If it has airbags, "airbag" will be written in small letters along the roofline above the B pillar, or there will be a molded thing in the side of the seat like the bonneville.
