hud windshield

Post by tpulliam79 »

I am about to replace my windshield I have hud and alot of the shops are saying there isnt much of a differance between the ones made for hud and the regular ones. Has anyone here put a regular windshield in with hud and what was the outcome, same, a little different or no way het the one made for hud? thanks

On the regular windshield the HUD will shadow a little... Not too horrible bad, but you'll notice it...

You will want them to get you the proper windshield... Is insurance covering the new windshield?

Get the HUD windshield, especially if its only $100 more.

Here is what you can expect your HUD to display like with a non-HUD windshield.

If you use the HUD then your probably best off getting the windshield that is made for the HUD. I was looking into possibly getting a new one at one point in time, but I never did. I think the HUD version was about 300 and change, and the other about 200 and change.

If ya'd quit aiming for the little birdies, maybe your windshield would last... :beerchug: lol. Let me know when you are ready, I can probably get you my discount. ;) I will try to remember to call Monday and see what my price is...you may need to call to remind me.

So I ask him, what would the right price be? He tells me about six grand. I shouted back Are you serious??? Nobody would pay that!!! With an old man evil grin, he smiles and says, I know.

My 1994 Cutlass Supreme did not come with HUD but i added it. Nice clear image. From what I've learned about those cars...The assembly line just used the windshield that had the best image, no difference at all between HUD and non-HUD windshields...But I'm not sure about Bonnevilles.

The Bonnevilles used some sort of coating on the windshield specifically for the HUD systems. Glass is also stamped HUD where EZcool or whatever would normally be.

my old 97 sse didnt have a hud windshield and i found if i didnt keep it on full brightness it wouldnt shadow much AT ALL. but on full brightness it would shadow and be a tad harder to read. spending the extra money wasnt worth it to me to change out the windshield

The bonneville windshield doesn't have a coating, it's got an extra LAYER laminated in between.

Your image will be shadowed and you will lose overall (perceived) brightness during the day. The shadowing will be annoying at night.

If the difference is only 100 bucks, it's well worth the investment.

flip to the second page and read the REPAIR CONSIDERATIONS section. It describes it fully.
