Oil Pressure Gage

Post by Aviator327 »

I noticed that when I started the car this morning the oil pressure gage is pegged out at 120PSI. (No Light). Normally it has been between 40-60PSI. I am assuming that the sensor has gone south. Only 41K on the milage now. Will have to get it looked at.

Hey Aviator,
That sounds like the issue. When my oil pressure sensor went out, it pegged the gage also. It was a quick fix since the sensor is near the oil filter and is easily replaced. Just have a rag or something to stick in the hole when you take out the sensor to keep oil from draining. It's not a lot of oil but I still tried to minimize the drips. Good luck!

It started a couple of days ago. If I as at idle the pressure hovered around 60. As soon as I gave it some gas the needle would go up just shy of the 120 index and backoff a little. This morning it just stayed at 120. Just had an oil change done last week.

100% sure the sensor is done. Replacements are cheap.

Taking it in tomorrow morning at the dealership i got it from. When i purchased the car last Oct, I also got a 3 year extended service contract so that should help some.

ASK BEFORE THEY TOUCH IT! Lots of sensors aren't covered, and if they stick you for a diagnostic charge, it could cost you more than you think. My sensor wasn't covered, and it still reads 120 psi today.

definitely dont pay them to do it.. its about a 15 min job and 20-30 dollar part.. personally I would rather spend the money for the part and put it in before paying a stealership to diagnose and install .. just my opinion
