Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD Touchscreen

Post by Twister97 »

Had a buddy come over yesterday and we hooked up my new in dash touchscreen unit. So far no complaints. I also installed an HD receiver for it and definitely worth the money. I cant believe the major difference in quality.

The install was pretty strait forward, just a little time consuming. I had to dremel down a piece of plastic in the inside rear of the dash to get this to fit, but all is good.

Anyways, here is how it looks in the dash. The green matches great; it has several different color patterns including blue, violet, orange, and of course red.

Is there a Nav version of this? It looks REALLY factory - very nice, especially the ability to select red backlighting (for us Bonne owners). I was thinking of doing the GM/Delphi TNR800 for a factory look, but that requires extensive modification to get the red backlighting.

Thanks!

....You gotta catch me first Pat to see it.
No, it does not have a navigation system. I really did not need one due to having a Magellan receiver already. Plus it saved me money.
I believe other AVH models might have navigation, not exactly sure.

Really havent had a chance to test everything out, but here are some of the features it has.
I ordered steering wheel controls and an iPod cable for it and will get updated pics when I install those.

I've had this unit in since June. I love it! I love the USB capability. I used an extension cable to be able to hot-swap thumb drives from the left side cubby.

Congrats on the new head unit.

That deck does look factory. I have to say it fits quite well and the features on HU's like this help our cars come a long way in terms of modernizing our old wheels.

One of the reasons I want a newer car with Double-Din radio is to get a radio like this, or one which has a touch screen deck with Navi from the factory. BMW 330i's come to mind and are starting to fall into a pricerange that is somewhat tangable to me.

the pioneer 4000dvd is dvd only with ipod video capability
the pioneer 700bt is cd only with nav, and ipod video capability
the 900bt has dvd, nav, and ipod video capability. plus they all have an SD slot on the front and a USB extension cable on the back.
Theyre really nice units, and they are very good to install for a double din because it has no moving parts on the outside to account for. The touchscreen of the 700 and 900 is a tad slow to respond vs. the 4000.

Actual install time might of only been an hour or two, but other prep work and messing around with wires is what slows you down and then forgetting something and running out to the store. If I had to do it again I could probably get it done in 90 minutes; I am not really speedy gonzalez when it comes to audio installs.

Finally had a chance to play with it some (after getting it back from the garage due to new transmission) with my new speakers I put in as well and the sound is very nice! If you like animations and fancy background then this unit is probably not for you. The touchscreen controls are amazing and really surpassed my expectations. Even after sub zero nights it does not give me any problems. I was a little worried that when I put in my new speakers which are 4ohms and the stock amp is supposed to be 2ohms, that I could of chanced messing something up but no problems so far. One reason I like Pioneers is the features they have for audio settings and being able to, what it seems like, turn on the amp at will, otherwise it just runs strait from the head unit. Not sure how to describe it...

It does fit very nicely as well. I had to punch a piece of plastic off in the back of the radio slot in the car to make it flush, but thats about it.
