Did Rogue tell you that? His 1.8 rockers and S1X cam must be quite a hassle with Stage 3 heads. That's all right, though. I'm sure when he takes off those rockers and runs just with a cam, he will go from second to first place in the top 25 quickest Bonnevilles list.willwren wrote:Radomir, his heads are stock, and most people get their LIFT as well as duration from the cam itself. Higher ratio rockers aren't necessary.

Dirthead & Radomir - This topic is about Bob's build, not a flexing of mechanical muscles or who's going to top the list of fastest bonnevilles. Back on Topic.

Bob, it's been a long time since WCBF`08, but your car is finally back to life! I felt so bad for you after your car did so well at the track, to be the only casualty after such a great time. I'm SO glad you now know what it was -for EVERYONE's sake- and that you now have a kickin' engine with a sweet cam. I think everyone is eager to see the teal deal back at WCBF`09. Good luck with those code issues, and keep us updated!

Echo SSEI, Man that is great news. I been thinkin about cammin mine. You dudes work quick. Your thing says you are in Arizona, why you wearin a sweatshirt? Do you have a video? I've been looking all over the net for cams and vids, would be great to see yours.
Echo do you have more pictures?
LOL at this one. Many of my buddies have both rockers and cams in their cars. I hang at a speed shop most of the time and it's like that Dirthead Racing guy said, it's common. And there's a black car on the Intense-Racing.com website that says he has both on his 3800. Doesn't say it's a different motor.willwren wrote:Radomir, his heads are stock, and most people get their LIFT as well as duration from the cam itself. Higher ratio rockers aren't necessary.

Dirthead, If you operate on the very likely assumption that this is an off-the-shelf performance cam from one of our common and prominent vendors (which it is), you can rule out splitting the lift between the cam and the rockers.
In the 3800 community, 95% or more of the cams available are designed for the stock rocker ratio. It's probably best to try to keep this conversation as 'real world' as possible.
Well done, AZ crew. Let's see her run!

I'm going to go out on a limb here. It is an XP cam, and it can be run with higher ratio rockers.

But if you go and actually read his topic, Radomir, you'll see that it's CLEARLY stated they left something off, and that something was identified as ROCKERS. It's not TYPICAL to run a cam AND righer ratio rockers.

Re: I'm Excited - Part III (or IV-Can't Remember Where We Were)
Hello,
I spoke to Bob yesterday and he said the car is doing well.
We will gather again this weekend and take the next steps.
The plans are as follows:
Do a top engine clean.
Change out the sacraficial oil & filter.
Install the spark plug wire boot protectors, because we forgot to do so last weekend.
Check plugs, looking for indicators.. change if needed.
Remove engine ground wires from block, clean the engine block very well and re-connect the grounds. As the motor was used in the previous car the grounding points were not used therefore the connections are pretty dirty and not very conductive.
Install wideband.
then Bob will drive my car for the next week while I use the bonneville as my daily driver and tune it properly.
We never even hooked up the laptop to the car last weekend, we simply decided to drive it for a week to blow the dust out first.
Already I know it needs a VE tune, MAF calibration, Timing tune.. after we get those taken care of, it should be a pretty fast Bonneville. I think it should sport a 70% chance of being faster then it was in Oregon.
Regarding the rocker with cam conversation:
The intent was never to be the fastest Bonneville in Arizona although it might already be anyway..
The intent is to keep it as a good reliable family car.
It already has a hand full of mods that will allow the car to remain reliable, and it should still run mid 13's at the track.
I believe it has already been demonstrated that rockers and the XP camshaft can be combined but that doesn't mean we it will ever happen, the family's financial considerations come first, the performance car will come last.
At this point I can almost speak for Bob in saying that if the car runs like it did in Oregon las summer on a daily basis and gets the three daughters to & from their dance... life is great..
I can say that Bob couldn't wipe the smile off his face Monday afternoon, we all poped open a few Killian's Red's and celebrated. "so that's the second time I ever seen Bob drink a beer."
After it was driven around the block for its first road test we broke out the bucket, soap etc and cleaned her up real good. put air in the tires..
We took some pictures of Bob scraping the numbers off the rear window that still remained from Woodburn Drag Strip.
For us, it was pretty emotional.
As I'm typing this i can just see my wife standing here looking at me, shrugging her sholders and saying, "its just an old car guys"
Its all good right now.

I am so glad to hear things are going well. I am upset that you didn't get us that childish little smile of excitement a smile on Bob's face when it fired up.
Anyways, keep us posted and good luck on the final work.

I recognize that shrug.
I will admit that Liz has come to respect my endeavors to keep the "old car" going, and smoothly so. Since it's her daily driver and she loves the combo of comfort and available power, she's happy that I keep ours in good shape. She also realizes that a guy could have much worse hobbies than keeping the family cars in good running condition and saving thousands $$$ by not having new car payments.
I suspect that Bob's wife and even yours feels the same way on at least some level.
BTW, I need to give my kudos to you guys for the work you've done to get the tealmobile running again...better than ever.

Tranny code = coincidence after sitting so long without moving? I'm sure you have cleared it. Has it come back?Echo SSEI wrote:
The car did fnially throw two codes last night under normal driving conditions. P0171, the lean bank one code, and a P1811 for hard shift. The P0171 is not really a total surprise, I guess, but the tranny code is puzzling.

2000 SSEi (Silver Eagle) cleared corners (before accident) new LIM gasket, drilled 180 T-stat, new plugs and wires, new valve cover gaskets, new Supercharger gasket, third brake light overlay. Hopefully soon to start more mods for performance. Also, 2005 White SE totally stock and will remain that way!

Thank you Bob & Vince for your hard work and kindness!!

That being said, don't you think its about time you drove in the Bonneville lane Mr.SuperSLE wrote: Hope you still plan on pushing it at WCBF 09. Can't wait to race against her again..
I'll tell you what.. you drive in the Bonneville lane and I'll drive in the Grand Prix lane, then you can race against me for eliminations
Actually i'd like to race you heads up for ET.. You have the fastest Bonneville I have ever seen in person my friend and now that your in the 12's, it will be so much more fun to watch.
I'd also like to race Dan because his car is the closest to mine in ET & traps. sorry, back on topic.
The one thing i can recommend to anyone that owns a L36, L67 & L32 is an oil pressure riser kit of any kind, as long as it brings the oil pressure up. That's what did Bob's motor in, in the first place.
Lash:
My wife does take a step back and lets us guys do our thing, she also likes to make fun of us, when she looks at pictures of gatherings with all the cars lined up, hoods up etc, she says "Oh, that's so lovely"
She likes my Vette when its freshly waxed but would never have any interest in looking under the hood.
And my last comment to the last series of replies...
Bob is my friend, basically i'm blessed to have a friend, basically I have one good friend, Bob makes up for the fact that I don't have more friends. and everyone has a friend right? then anyone would extend themselves to a reasonable amount for a friend right? Its just a bummer we live on oppisite sides of town or we'd be able to visit more often.
