Michigan area meet, July 11th - 18th UPDATE 7-5 first post

Post by crash93ssei »

Updated 7-5-09 PLEASE READ ALL DIRECTIONS, SOME HAVE CHANGED!

*There is a $4 entrance fee for the park, you will need cash*

The kickoff for the meet will be held at Kensington Metropark on July 11th, @ 12 PM NOON. Late arrivals are just fine, but we needed to occupy the pavillion by noon, so I have to be down early.

We will be meeting at the pavillion marked "J" on this map
Image

This link for a Google map with directions to get to the pavillion Pavillion "J" South Hickory Ridge ****7-5-09 PLEASE NOTE**** THERE IS CONSTRUCTION AT THE WEST ENTRANCE TO THE PARK, SO WE MUST USE EXIT 153 (Kent Lake rd.) OFF OF I-96 TO ENTER THE PARK!!!! Map updated with new detour directions, please check them out to make sure you have the right directions.

This link for a Google map with directions to get to my house 1249 N nine mile rd, Sanford Mi. 48657

One more map to look at!!! When going from the park to my house, we have to jump from I-75 to US-10. We have to go through one of those horrible "cloverleaf" onramps, so when we get up to it we will need to split up a bit so we can all make it with the other traffic as well. This has been a PITA the past two years. map from the park to my house

For those traveling from far away, there are a few options.... You can come out to my house Friday if you wish so you don't have to leave at midnight the night before to make it to the park, or you can skip the park meet and go directly to the house, or, you can just show up late for the meet.

We will be grilling at the park for lunch, so bring a dish to pass if you wish, but you don't absolutely have to. Whatever you wish to bring, post it up so we don't get 30 people bringing burgers and no buns  We will be leaving the park to head to my house at around 5 or 6 pm to be sure we make it to my house in the daylight. Nothing worse then a bunch of cars trying to follow each other in the dark

36 interested members so far!!!! This should be the largest Michigan meet yet!

Looks like I might have to post this in the National / Regional meet section next year

A track day is planned out for Wednesday, the 15th.
Nothing really is set in stone for the rest of the week, but you can be sure that you won't be bored :beerchug: There will be much detailing, mechanical work, and all around good times!

If you are thinking about showing up last minute, that is fine, just PM me for my number so you can call ahead of time and make sure where we are.

BIG bonfire Saturday night when we get back to my place.

It seems like there is a lot of people that are interested in learning about detailing and various products etc. and only using half of a day on Sunday really isn't much time. Also, for as many people as we have had in the past meets, a longer meet might be better and not feel as rushed.

In the past, it seemed that the main thing up here was a giant drunk party after the meet at the park, and it seemed to have turned a few people off, so this meet will have drinks, but not a drunk bash. I want a more relaxed atmosphere where everyone can feel comfortable whether or not they drink :)

As in the past, make sure to check THIS first post for updates and information. I will edit this post with all the info you will need to know so you don't have to search for it.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post up as soon as you know for sure if you will be attending and for how long. You don't have to commit to anything 100%, and if you come to the meet then decide right then to stay the rest of the week that is perfectly OK. I just want to get a good idea of attendance so we can get sleeping arrangements set up :)

Heck yeah! I look forward to this meet every year! (ok, I've only been to two or three, but still...). I think that it works great as just a weekend, because I probably couldn't get the week of anyways... One thing we should try, though, is going to a track.. Are there any tracks around here that you know of? Just a thought...

I'm in, but I can only make a weekend, I won't be able to get a week off of work.

The only one I can think of is Milan Dragway, But it is kind of far away from where we had the meet last year.

I'll definitely head up! The weekend would be best for me, but it doesn't really matter.

Well, if there is any interest, we could do the weekend meet then still continue the meet for the week. Believe me, I have no problem taking a few extra days vacation :P

As far as the track, I think that might be kind of hard to organize for a weekend meet with people driving so far. Not sure on that though, we will see what the interest is with it.

Last thing for this post
Is late June, continuing into the first few days of July ( for a week long meet ) a bad time for anyone, or does that work out good?

We need to get a date nailed down so I can call some parks.

I hate to be the one to inconvenience...but it's unlikely that I would be able to make it in late June. The big community festival in the town I grew up in is typically the last couple days of June and into July...and I'm kind of heavily involved in it. Plus it's great to see old friends and such.

I don't know the exact date they're doing it this year yet, so I'll update you when I know. If you can't change it, or nothing else works for everyone, it's not really a big deal - don't stress about it.

I'd like to make it this year, if things work out. I voted for the week long, not because I may be able to hang out that long, but it allows for more people to have the opportunity to make it. If they can't make the weekend event, they may be able to make it during the week. Not everyone has weekends off.

Well, since there isn't really any objection to that time frame, I will start calling some state parks this week and see what is available. I would really like to do Kensington State Park again, that place was just beautiful!

Looks like there is enough interest also to do a longer meet, so we will go ahead and do that as well. We will start out doing the weekend meet, then just continue it for the rest of the week.

Oh darn.... I need to take a few days off work

no time to read the whole thread at the moment, but that time frame doesn't work for me one bit, mid June of mid july would both be better.

Also for obvious reasons, I love the track Idea. :P

If you guys want to do a larger meet, I'll try to do my best to get out there, but since I don't have a job and just started at a new school, I really can't say for sure that I can make it the whole time. I might, however, for-go WCBF and just go up for the whole week if there's enough interest...

I'm very interested in going to this. It'll be my first meet, and I'm kind of excited, as I could really use some good pointers on detailing!

The drive isn't too bad, hovering around the 6 hour mark, but I've done plenty more than that in my day. The only thing I am not sure about is if I could do the week or just the weekend. Have to go back to school to expand on my degree (can't get any jobs around here anymore, need new training/experience), and I will be taking summer classes. So, I don't know if that'll be a week I have off or not, but I will update as soon as I found out.

If anything, I can do the weekend (although I think it'd be so much fun, I'd want it to last longer than two days, lol).

Once I decide that, I'll just have to decide which car to take. . .

well i voted weekend meet, because thats what i would be doing and i would like to hang out with everyone.

BUT that time frame (weekend of june 27th) won't work for me. i have a DJ gig that weekend so its kinda shot for me. if you guys pick another weekend i'll try and make it but it might be hard in general. thats the approx. timeframe that i'll be moving into a house so i might be to busy anyhow. I'll watch this and see what happens though.
