My dad used a radar detector in an Aerostar. He would go about 65 in the passing lane and then slow down to 55 when it went off.

Re: I got caught!!
I remember your crazy story, but I think you'd have more trouble if that SD card happened to resurface. This is a much better situation. I've seen one but am aware of several Passport radar detectors from a local GP forum and 1337ssei. That one is awesome. It is extremely expensive but has a lot of nice features.

Some people just slow down too much with one. Hopefully you will use yours wisely.

Re: I got caught!!
5 over/with traffic is good everywhere, that's my rule. I'll have my fun in corners, ramps, and getting to speed, but anything more than that is just asking for it.
But 95 in 50 is just asking for it. Going double the speed of other cars is dangerous, and very obvious.

Yup, Gonzo is correct about the reliability of the Escort Passport 8500. It's a very good detector, but the best defense you have is to not stress your right foot so much with holding the ankle flexing.
I have been watching my speed and don't go for the hard accelleration so much anymore -well I still accellerate harder than most people, but I keep it under 40% throttle and try to keep boost down to less than 2 lbs.

Re: I got caught!!
Tickets suck. You're lucky you have actually gotten warnings before though, I cannot ever remember getting a warning. I've always got the ticket and then usually a seatbelt ticket along with it because I used to never wear it. I've gotten into that habit now though. Back in the day I was pretty awful with remembering to use my seatbelt but fortunately they only gave me those tickets and never searched my vehicle.
I'm not gonna bust your chops too much about speeding but chances are if the limit was 45 then 90 was a bit excessive
. I can understand 90+ down the interstate or barren-for-miles country roads, not that it is a good idea, but if it was 45 and an officer was around it was the wrong place for that
. Personally I think the US interstate system should have a 100mph limit
. It's always been my belief that speed doesn't kill, stupid drivers do. If people drove proper (like in the proper lane) there wouldn't be much of an added danger.

Re: I got caught!!
One thing I will NOT do is drive when there is traffic on the road. well if there is alot of traffic up ahead. I'm a defensive driver. you never know what other drivers will do so trust and believe I may drive fast, but I don't exceed my limits and definetly not my car. It drives and handles the same as it would at lowers speeds just a difference in road noise.BonneMe wrote:5 over/with traffic is good everywhere, that's my rule. Re: I got caught!!
Just to point out the obvious: A radar detector is no guarantee that you won't get a speeding ticket. Not driving so fast is a much better guarantee. Note: I'm not busting your chops for speeding, I'm giving you advice on how to not get speeding tickets.
Personally, I got most of my speeding tickets when I had a radar detector. Now I haven't had a radar detector in the last 12 years, and I've only received one ticket during those years. I probably wouldn't have gotten that one if I had a radar detector, but since then I don't drive 55 in that 35 local zone, and I have to admit, that seems to work just as well.
No radar detector for me = less speeding tickets.

i used to think the same, but a buddy got a ticket for "unnecessary acceleration" in his cavalier, and not even @ WOTBonneMe wrote:5 over/with traffic is good everywhere, that's my rule. I'll have my fun in corners, ramps, and getting to speed, but anything more than that is just asking for it.

Re: I got caught!!
I got pulled over for excessive acceleration once because I spun my tires on my 85 RWD Lincoln on an unplowed road (it was snowy out). Some cops are just pricks.bonnevillain wrote:i used to think the same, but a buddy got a ticket for "unnecessary acceleration" in his cavalier, and not even @ WOTBonneMe wrote:5 over/with traffic is good everywhere, that's my rule.
