GPX ECM swap?
I know the 04 and 05 bonneville GXP ecm is locked ,so what about an ecm from a 06-08 GP GPX? Use FSM from both cars, cut and splice as needed.Hook up HP Tuners and get that low end power the GPX people want
Also the door would be open for the new SC N*
The time has come to get the max.performance out of the GPX cars

Re: GPX ECM swap?
I would imagine they are not interchangable, since the cars have diffrent engines.

Re: GPX ECM swap?
Yea...definitely not going to work. The engines in those vehicles are totally different. The 04-05' Bonneville GXP uses the 4.6 litre Cadillac Northstar LD8 V8, while the Grand Prix GXP uses the pushrod 5.3 litre LS4 V8. They are 100% different, as is the ECM.
Believe me, the Northstar engine has been around a LONG time, and if it could be cracked, it would have been cracked by now. Especially if it was as simple as swapping the ECM.

Re: GPX ECM swap?
I do undrestand they are totally different, but lets look at what is common. Both are V8's and have FWD,traction control.torque management,HUD. :)I know it would not be as simple as just a swapping the ecm,you may need to use some or all of the sensors. And HP tuners to make it work.

Re: GPX ECM swap?
The GXP (N*) PCM (not ECM) can be cracked, but it's an expensive venture that isn't justified by the relatively low level of interest.
Some products that operate more on the 'piggyback' principle are available and have been for quite some time. Here's three for instance that are good for the 04/05 Northstar GXP:
http://www.jetchip.com/Shop/ProdImages/AirFuelNB.jpg (not really good for performance, but can go along with the next two)
http://www.jetchip.com/Shop/ProdImages/V-Force-Plus.jpg (optimizes timing and fuel)
http://www.jetchip.com/Shop/ProdImages/ ... %20Air.jpg (removes the restriction of the factory sensor body)

Re: GPX ECM swap?
Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the jetchip V force.I'm thinking of getting GPX to replace my 93 SE now that the price on them has dropped so much.
The problem is the 1/4 mi. times are so slow for a V8,and no way to add a good tune or boost. :sad:I don't beleave in NOS.

Not to be rude, but you keep calling it a GPX, whereas it's actually GXP.mhfromphila wrote:Thanks for the info. Thanks for the info Bill...I didn't realize the Northstar had some options for it. Most of the stuff you read is that it's pretty much impossible.

Re: GPX ECM swap?
That MAF came out in '04, and I believe Venom is running it. I might be mistaken.
Let's also clarify that the GXP and most other cars on this Forum have a PCM, not an ECM. There is a significant difference.

Re: GPX ECM swap?
Good luck with that LS PCM. There are people trying to do that and also trying to hack the Northstar PCM, but nothing is proven or readily available for the Northstar yet, and at any rate zero has been done on the 2004 - 2005 pcms. I watch the caddy forums and will post up if anything comes of it.
I have some other info I'll post up on separately.
If you happen to be rich but still want to drive a GXP, keep in mind a few years ago there was a guy that turboed a 99STS Northstar and ended up putting down some sick numbers, 600+ at the wheels IIRC. He used a standalone engine controller along with a trans controller that together cost $2100, and only god knows how many hours of programming. He threw out a total for all the mods with turbo setup at around $20k, can't remember if that was before or after the trans blew.

Re: GPX ECM swap?
I am new to this forum, but based on this thread, I just thought I'd let you all know that Westers Garage will have tuning for the '04-'05 Bonni GXP available in the spring. They are just waiting on the weather to break and the test car to arrive for dyno testing. He can do minor changes now (shift points, shift firmness, o2 sensor mods) but will not have the engine tuning available until after the dyno process is complete.
Just thought you might like to know!

Hi Kersh. I actually have a Westers 91/93 hot tune in my '01 C3 (I'm a member over on DTC). Westers tunes have a reputation for being powerful. I'm watching patiently to see what comes out of that.
