I have a couple of the Flowmaster 80 Series on my '93, I'll edit it into this post once I get home later.

[EDIT]:
We forgot a vacuum line after we put the top end back on, so don't the vacuum leak.

There was a really good thread on the old forum that I'm not sure got carried over, that had a few different video clips of different mufflers, with and without the resonator.

I used to have some audio clips from one of the MN meets where we got clips of all the rides. We had a pretty good variety as well. Maybe Bonneme or someone still has copies floating around.

My 2001 Bonneville still has the stock exhaust, but I have modified the one on my LeSabre (1995, so it's still the L27, but gives you an idea). The muffler is an Edelbrock SDT dual 2.5 outlet. So far, the only car I know that has the muffler (only H-body anyway).

This video is with the stock cat and resonator (you need to skip past the first 17 secs or so to get to the exhaust part):
Image

This video is with a high flow cat and no resonator:
Image

I don't really like it without the resonator, too raspy. Going to add a resonator again sometime.

yeah I noticed that in a lot of the youtube vids
my idea is to replace the resonator with a glass pack and put aerochambers at the back

I think this is my favorite so far that I have found. These are spintech mufflers on a L67 fiero.

This is my 89 T-type with the current motor (soon to be L67). It is stock piping with a high flow cat and a flowtech terminator muffler. I personally love it and will use it again on the L67. i just hope it sounds the same.

I love this one. That sounds great. Nice deep tone without being annoying and raspy. It has the stock resonator on it still I assume as well?

BEWARE:

I've never found a video of someone's exhaust to accurately reflect the sound in person. Every camera/microphone is different, as are everyone's speakers. In fact, I've found some cars out west that don't sound at ALL like the sound in their vids.

Also, try not to compare to very different chassis designs even though the engine is the same. Length of the exhaust is a big factor. For instance, you could drop an L67 into a fiero or neon, use identical components to your car, and it'll sound very different.

Very True!

I got the Flowmaster based on vids online. While I do love the exhaust note at idle, when it gets up in the RPM it does get fairly raspy to the point that I don't like it. I wish I had heard them in person first, I would have gone for the Magnaflow instead. Which I now have heard in person. Little quieter and less raspy than the FM 80.

I'm probably going Magnaflow on the '01 based on what I've heard on '92-'99s, but I want to hear it on an '00+ before I get it this time.

That's exactly why I went Magnaflow. After hearing vids, then several cars in person.

William the Magnaflow on brads car sounds great... But he does still have the factory res and cat... Its a very nice mellow sound... I love it

The Flowmaster on your car was great... A little too loud for my tastes but loved the idle and low RPM's..

The Moroso on the Van is too much... The drone is just insane... Great at idle and nice under 2000 Rpms... Above 2000 will drive you nuts

I have the Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers(on the car 7 years) and they sound great.
http://www.holley.com/types/Aero%20Chamber.asp
Here is my car with the Aero Chamber mufflers, my car is the 5th one back and all the cars are L67's.
http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k252/ ... =flyby.flv
Notice how deep(and mellow) the sound is, no RICE SOUND from my car.
That said if I was going to replace them I would get the Hooker Max Flow muffler(it flows like an open exhaust but is not loud.
http://www.holley.com/types/Maximum%20Flow.asp
Here is a test on some mufflers
Finally good information to base muffler choice on! Excellent site to hear muffler sounds.

http://ls1sounds.com/

Which muffler flows the best?

Standard OEM 2 ½” Inlet/Outlet 161-197 CFM

The mandrel bending of the pipes done by aftermarket exhaust companies is good for 2-4 hp depending on the severity of the stock bends. Most local exhaust places don't have a mandrel bender so changing the pipes out doesn't do anything if pipe size it not increased.

My opinion, if its more noise and a little more power just add the best flowing stainless muffler to the current system and never do it again. If you increase pipe sizes, then a local shop and only stainless. Don't care about money but want ease and better gains than most local shops can offer with no pipe size increase, and aftermarket exhaust.

NOISE does NOT equal POWER!!!

Which muffler is quietest but makes the most power?
This test was performed by 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine, December 2002 issue (page 55) on a '90 Mustang LX coupe with 370hp and 11 second potential. 66 pulls were made for this comparison:

The Moroso is an race muffler and it WOULD be loud as hell but I use it in place of the stock resonator. It got rid of the drone the car had(without the stock resonator) and it made the car a little quieter on the outside as well without changing the tone of the exhaust at all.

Yeah the van had the Moroso on there when I got it.. I plan to change it for something quieter all the way around... Won't be silent, but will have a nice grumble and groan.. But that will come after the L27-L26 swap

Not the greatest Vid... Its actually a bit louder than that... I'm going to miss the low growl of the L27 when its all over...
