Our Sable and Alero also have the fuel filler door on the "other" side. It's much more convenient on the driver's side. I don't get the reasoning for the other location.

I seriously doubt it.
But the filler neck may still be on the "other" side.
I can see where it would be useful, especially when gas stations have that step right around where the bottom of the door is. I have almost hit that several times with my door.

I see it quite the opposite. I think it is one thing over-looked from the conversion from right to left hand drive. Ozzies drive on the other side of the road, and i bet that is why, because it would cost even more money to convert.

No, the tires have the same outer diameter as the stock tires.
