Motor mount mod: DONE!

Post by bonnevillain »

EDIT: scroll down for final product

Image

it works for now, but the bolt was BARELY long enough, and it needs something in there to dampen the vibration. where would be the best place to put something to dampen it? and what easy/cheap material would you suggest? i thought about part of a motorcycle inner tube.. i have a few laying around. would that be stiff enough? also... How much should i crank down on it? the washers are compressing the top hockey puck a bit.

Next up:

and, the previous mod: note the lack of rust

All I have to add is that your under carraige looks awesome! Very Clean.
I'm not really sure how a ported L36 Manifold should look, so I'm not much on that one.
Same with the hockey puck mount, however, it looks pretty solid, I would imagine you will get some wikid steering wheel vibrations though?

Let me know how that LIM Porting goes. I have a new LIM and you telling me how much improvement it gives your car will get me moving on getting mine done.

I am following bill's advice and going with the LIM / FWI / Cat combo... so my results may vary a bit from yours, but i will let you know for sure.

Well, I already have the FWI, just no new kitty. So, shouldn't be TOO far off.

To dampen solid mount vibes you need to put a rubber/neoprene/durable-flexable-material between the washer and the frame under the car.

there was / is no washer under the car. There wasn't one when i took it off, so there isn't one on there now.

I tried some 80 cent rubber washers underneath there, and it helped, but the vibration was still there. I think they were too soft. My mount is now using a marshmellow spring by Firestone. These are specifically designed to dampen vibration on the heavy machinery at my dad's work. They replace conventional springs in a lot of these machines, and it works much better now. there is only a hint of vibration at low throttle in 2nd gear (about 30mph) but not enough to bother me. i have an old crusty endlink between the bolt and frame on the bottom, and it helped, but im sure a new one would work even better. I could also put one on the top as i have plenty of bolt left, but i will leave it for now.

here's mine: almost the exact same size as 3 hockey pucks

I think there's a joke here, but I'm gonna leave it alone.

Looks really good, Ryan. How's the LIM porting coming along?

LMAO, I may quote that! :laughing3:

Anyway, looks good. I wish I had just gone against my mom's urge to put the stock front trans mount in. She paid for it, but at the time If I had known the rear trans mount was bad as well, I would have had her pay for the rear mount and I'd have made the solid front mount anyway...

Let us know what the difference is

it's.. well... solid. it cost $5, and gives you some better launching abilities for sure. At the expense of a little vibration.

Any chance on a part number for that baby? It looks ideal for an aftermarket mount
