Supercharger rattling bad
My SC started rattling very bad .
It's not coupler. I changed nosedrive back in March and evrything is fine with coupler.
The sound comes from rotors and every day it gets louder.
The question is can something from supercharger damage engine if I keep driving with it for a while?
Anybody with SC for sale PM me.
It's 1995 SSEi so I need M62 I guess.
One more question.
I heard that 1992-1994 SC have different throttle body mounting than 1995. Is it suppose to be from 1995 or they interchangeable ?
Thanks in advance .

Re: Supercharger rattling bad
If you take the belt off and spin the supercharger pulley, what kind of slack does it have...rotational slack or another kind where the pulley is "loose"?

Re: Supercharger rattling bad
It's not only at idle.I already have experience with it. With adding RPM it gets louder.
The pulley isn't loose.
There is allmost no 'play" when rotating back and forth and there is no loose when trying to pull/push pulley.
It's 99.99% rotor bearings. It's just my opinion of course. I recall now when I was assembling SC back with replacement nosedrive and rotating it with my hands it wasn't allways smooth. Sometime at some point it was like minimal resistance.

Re: Supercharger rattling bad
Well, this is nosedrive bearing after all went bad.
Same story as it happened six months ago.Exactly the same. The only question is why?
Is it something out of ballance like pulley or belt tensioner or something else affect it or is it just bad luck.
Im replacing SC this week and just curious if I have to buy another nosedrive in 6 months again.

Re: Supercharger rattling bad
If a nosedrive is driven too long on bad bearings before the bearings are replaced, it will happen more often.
You don't need a whole supercharger. Just a nosedrive. Replace the bearings before you use it. Nosedrive bearing failure is not common, nor is it caused by external forces like the belt or tensioner.

Re: Supercharger rattling bad
Back in March I replaced only nosedrive .Bearing was OK. No play in any direction and after six months it's allmost dead.willwren wrote:If a nosedrive is driven too long on bad bearings before the bearings are replaced, it will happen more often.

I thought it's rotors bearing first so I bougt whole supercharger (will be here tomorrow), so I guess I will replace whole thing and then someday I rebuild those two nosedrives I have and it will be spare supercharger or I can sell somebody who wants to rebuild it
Still very suspicious to me ,everything repeats exactly the same as in March.
Thsanks for reply anyway

Re: Supercharger rattling bad
Here's the real deal:
As the bearings wear, they cause more wear on two critical components. The nosedrive housing, which is aluminum, and the input shaft, which is steel. If the wear is enough, new bearings will only buy you so much time. Clearances are critical. As these old suckers age, the problem compounds itself. Not knowing the history of the supercharger you buy is a risk, and that risk increases every year these things age. There will come a time when some die-hard M62 Series 1 fanatics are sleeving their housings and having input shafts machined to keep life in them.

Re: Supercharger rattling bad
What is the difference between a nose bearing and the supercharger? Where is the nose bearing located? Because im getting the same problem once I accelerate and I come to a stop at a light I hear some loud rattling.

Rattling is typically not a bad bearing. Please start your own topic in this section to decrease the chance of confusing your issue with this one.
