The engine on my 93 bonnie overheated! Then, it started leaking from the large middle pully... by the time i got her home my power steering died (cant get it into the off street parking lot without it) The belt is halfway off the big middle pully and is ripped in the middle. I bought a new belt, have the tensioner bar ready to go.... However, i read the belt swap on the series 2 3800's and it intailed alot more.... All i'm looking to do is slap on a new belt and drive it to mommy's house where my tool boxes are! thanks in advance peoples!

That large pully in the middle where it is leaking is the water pump. Unless it is leaking from above the water pump and running down, it looks like you need a new pump. If the belt shredded, then you may have a frozen Idler pulley or something misaligned. Just putting a belt on and driving it may cost you another belt. Look things over real good and try to spin each pulley by hand. Also look down on each pulley and make sure the belt path is lined up.

I think that changing the belts on your '93 would be the same as my '94. Simple job, no tool necessary except the bar to loosen the tensioner.
It's the later models that have the mount bolt in the way. But like Matt says, check to see why the belt shredded, if you have a siezed pulley the new belt won't last long.

It is pretty sraight forward.

1. drain coolant
2. remove belt
3. remove water pump
4. clean mating surfaces
5. install new pump and belt (good time to do thermostat too)
6. Fill coolant (follow tech info http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... f=53&t=159)

on the 93 SSE, it looks to me like the engine mount is right in the way of removing the water pump. Can you tell me if I will have to undo that engine mount to remove the water pump?

On my 95, I just had to move the ps pump. it looked like the mount was in the way, but it was well clear of it. As for the 93, I am not sure.

Replaced mine and had to take the mount out to get the water pump out. Alot of beer later and every cuss word that is in the book it was fixed and good as new.
Intake, Magnaflow cat, Flowmaster exhaust, clear corners.

Just a comment from Captain Obvious - If you do find that you need to remove the mount to remove the water pump, first support the engine from underneath with a block of wood to distribute the weight over a large area of the oil pan to minimize the chance of denting the pan.

thanks for the tips on removing the water pump after I remove the engine mount. I will be sure to get an extra case of beer for the job.
next question is should I work from the top side or from underneath to remove the pump and mount? I have access to a lift with a supplemental hydraulic lift to support the engine, so I could do the work from below, but it just looks like the water pump and engine mount might be an easier reach for tools from the top side.
