anything you do will be completely custom, brackets, wiring, etc...

Re: does anyone know how to hook up a second alternator.?
Use a 10SI alternator and jumper the field to the positive battery cable. The bridge rectifier inside it will protect the alternator from the stock one.
Next point is where to mount it...the AC compressor bracket is probably as good a place as any, but you'll have to fabricate the mount. Also simplifies the wiring...straight shot from the positive terminal on the alternator to the positive post on the starter (then use the starter's positive cable to get back to the battery.)
So...er...um...why do you need two alternators?

If you want to do this to your 95 then it doesn't belong in the 87-91 section...

dual alternators for a heavy audio install...clm2112 wrote:Use a 10SI alternator and jumper the field to the positive battery cable. The bridge rectifier inside it will protect the alternator from the stock one.

and why would i hook up the positive from the alternator to the positive on the starter..?
i never heard of that...

Re: does anyone know how to hook up a second alternator.?
I think your best bet is to find a machine shop that is willing to work with you to design a custom mount and then machine it out of billet. You'll need to do the wiring (shouldn't be horrible if you hack off some of the harnesses from a junk yard car) and find a longer belt (probably trial and error after taking an initial guess via a piece of string.
You sure theres no way to just get an alternator with a higher power output? I think the stocker is 105 amp but 140 amp alts exist. Theres probably even a way to get a custom built alt for even higher output I would imagine.
Just throwing ideas out there...

Re: does anyone know how to hook up a second alternator.?
You can get delta wound alternators which put out more amps. Much better than Y-wound in terms of output. PLEASE dont listen to clm2112 about hooking the field wire to the positive batter post. you will full field the alternator and it will burn up the diodes in the rectifier bridge the first time you use it. The chargeback wire can and should go to the positive battery terminal. you can use an external voltage regulator from a crylsler and wire it in if you dont want to use the internal voltage regulator.

Re: does anyone know how to hook up a second alternator.?
You need a heavy cable going back to the battery positive terminal to put the second alternator's output into the battery & electrical system.88bonnsse wrote:and why would i hook up the positive from the alternator to the positive on the starter..?
i never heard of that...
If you mount the alternator down on the A/C compressor mount, the starter's battery lead is right there and more than heavy enough to take the alternator's output. Simple wiring.

i odnt use nothing smaller then a zero gauge wire for my install..

Do what you like then. It's overkill for any alternator's output.88bonnsse wrote:i odnt use nothing smaller then a zero gauge wire for my install..
